Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marvin Blackwell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephen Quinlan! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blackwell takes a swing at Quinlan's ribcage but misses. Quinlan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Blackwell looks to land a body kick but Quinlan moved away. Stephen Quinlan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Quinlan tries to bum rush Blackwell with a series of wild strikes but Blackwell uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Blackwell slips a jab and a cross from Quinlan.
Quinlan wants to slow Blackwell down by chopping away at his legs. Quinlan has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Blackwell tries to move into range but Quinlan moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Quinlan throws a head kick that misses. Blackwell throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Blackwell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Quinlan thows a leg kick but Blackwell checks it and Blackwell makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Blackwell scores with a kick to the midsection. A swing and a miss from Quinlan. Blackwell fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Quinlan has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Blackwell bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Blackwell throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Quinlan throws a sloppy head kick and Blackwell counters with a monster hook and another for good measure! Quinlan falls to the ground, out cold! Stick some heavy metal music over the top of that clip and it's one for the highlight makers!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Marvin Blackwell!
