PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carson Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Hawkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawkins has chosen The Second Coming as his entrance music. Steve Hawkins is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Carson Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steve Hawkins!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawkins with a lazy takedown attempt
and Miller counters with a one-two to the body.
Miller dives in and grabs Hawkins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hawkins pushes down on Miller's head and hops out.
Hawkins tries for a takedown but Miller sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Miller counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Hawkins looks winded!

Miller pulls guard successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Miller tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hawkins works over Miller with some ground and pound from guard.
Miller is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hawkins is controlling him.
Miller really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Miller has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hawkins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Miller pushes Hawkins off and gets back to his feet.

and Miller counters with a head kick.
Miller avoids the body shot from Hawkins.
Hawkins dives in for a single leg takedown but Miller sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Carson Miller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Hawkins.

Miller has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hawkins uses from the top position.

Miller has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Hawkins is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Hawkins closes the distance and clinches up with Miller, looking for a takedown. Hawkins pushes Miller against the cage but Miller circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Miller stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Miller wants it to stay on the feet.

Miller shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hawkins is trying to defend but Miller finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Miller is looking for a kimura but Hawkins is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage.

Hawkins is defending against the submission attempts here by Miller.

Miller is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hawkins sees it coming and defends easily.
Hawkins keeping hold of Miller's head, controlling as best he can.

Miller stands up and beckons Hawkins to join him on the feet.

and Miller counters by moving into the clinch.

Miller pulls Hawkins into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Miller lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Miller postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hawkins shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Miller as he avoids it easily.
Hawkins throws a lazy body kick
and Miller counters with an outside leg kick.
Miller closes the distance and clinches up with Hawkins, looking for a takedown. Miller pushes Hawkins against the cage but Hawkins circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Miller manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hawkins on his heels. He'll look to pass Hawkins's guard now, I'm sure.
Miller wanted to stand there but Hawkins had control of the position.
Miller works over Hawkins with some ground and pound from guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller is looking to work some ground and pound but Hawkins has wrist control.

Hawkins has his foot on Miller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miller works his way back into a safe position though.

Miller decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hawkins, up you get!
Miller shoots in for a takedown but Hawkins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Miller drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Miller is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hawkins has escaped the position, nice work there.

Hawkins is trapped and Miller is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Miller connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Hawkins to escape the position.

Miller looking to break Hawkins's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Hawkins remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Miller will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Carson Miller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Miller slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Miller gets his hands free as Hawkins looks to control.
Miller has Hawkins flattened out and is raining down punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hawkins is trying to get back to his feet but Miller has full control of the position and if anything, Hawkins has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Hawkins is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Miller lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Hawkins takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Miller is working the ground and pound. Can Hawkins escape?

Miller is persistently looking for the submission but Hawkins is defending it well.

Miller has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Hawkins.
Miller is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Miller gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Miller gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Miller apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Hawkins tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Miller paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carson Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hawkins shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Miller as he jumps to the side.

and Miller counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Miller.
Miller is pushing Hawkins up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Miller tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hawkins just stands there and leans against the cage.

Miller fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hawkins avoids it really well and circles away.

Hawkins shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hawkins was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carson Miller dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Miller rushes Hawkins and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Miller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Miller ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Miller no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Miller holds on and takes a little breather.
Hawkins distracts Miller with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hawkins wants to stand and escape but instead Miller has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Miller tries to pull guard but Hawkins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Hawkins is in close to Miller's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Hawkins is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hawkins lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Miller has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Hawkins off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Hawkins tries to clinch but Miller is having none of it.

Miller shoots in for a double leg but Hawkins sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Steve Hawkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Carson Miller showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miller, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
