Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Njord Freyr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
37 - 20 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Kovalenko! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kovalenko scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
It looks like Njord Freyr has been cut. Kovalenko has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Freyr is landing a low percentage of strikes. A looping hook to the body misses from Freyr. Kovalenko does a little dance to reset his feet. Freyr lands the left hand. Kovalenko misses with a right hand and Kovalenko takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Freyr is looking to clinch but Kovalenko is avoiding it.
Freyr takes a jab right on the kisser.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kovalenko circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kovalenko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A swing and a miss from Kovalenko. We've been told by Freyr's head coaches at Outlaws Clubhouse that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Freyr gets off balance looking for a body kick and Kovalenko counters with a thumping low kick. Freyr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Freyr avoids the body shot from Kovalenko.
A nice leg kick lands there from Freyr. Freyr looks to land a body kick but Kovalenko moved away. Kovalenko keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Freyr scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Freyr throws a shot to the body.
Kovalenko looks winded! Freyr lands with a kick to the ribs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Freyr throws out a loose jab but Kovalenko uses good head movement to avoid it. Kovalenko blocks a head kick by Freyr.
Freyr misses with a kick to the body.
Freyr scores with a crisp jab that stopped Kovalenko in his tracks. Nice shot lands for Kovalenko. BAM! Freyr delivers a spinning backfist that drops Kovalenko like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!
