PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nestor Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Silve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dan Silve will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nestor Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Silve!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head shoots in looking for a takedown but Silve manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Head's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Head fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Silve looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Head is fending him off so far but Silve persists. Nope, Head circles away and we're back to standing.
Head tries a head kick but it misses.
Silve fails with a takedown attempt.
Head tries for a takedown but Silve sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nestor Head. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silve shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Head but Head pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Head gets tackled into the cage by Silve. Silve maintains the clinch.
Head fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Head tries to throw a body punch but Silve avoids it by throwing Head back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Head jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Silve walks away with a smile on his face. Head gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Head tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Silve swivels and escapes.
Dan Silve seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Head shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silve napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Head throws an elbow but Silve slips to the side and avoids it well.
Silve is looking for a sweep.

Head decides to stand up, so the ref orders Silve to his feet.
Silve shoots in but Head avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silve avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A shot to the liver by Silve. Beautiful body shot.
Silve fails with a takedown attempt.
Silve tries to clinch but Head is having none of it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Head shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silve but Silve pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silve.
Head misses with a takedown attempt - Silve sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Silve rushes Head and presses him up against the cage.
Silve manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Silve tries to pull guard but Head holds him up against the cage and eventually Silve drops back down to his feet.

Head jumps guard and drags Silve to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Head wants to get back to his feet but Silve is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silve would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Head keeping moving, preventing Silve from controlling successfully.
Head is pulling down on Silve's head to control his posture.
Silve must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dan Silve wasn't active enough on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Silve is looking for a triangle but Head pushes his legs off easily.

Head fails with the takedown.
Silve darts in looking for a takedown but Head gets double underhooks and turns Silve into the cage.
Silve is trying to break the clinch but Head is controlling him.

Head manages to break the clinch.
Head rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Silve moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Silve displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Head.
Head leaves Silve with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Silve shoots for a double leg takedown but Head sprawls well. He's pushed Silve's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nestor Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Silve.

Silve moves into the clinch.
Silve is trying to break the clinch but Head is controlling him.
Silve is leaning against Head and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Silve stops a takedown attempt from Head.

Head jumps guard but Silve turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Silve drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Head could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Silve is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Silve is looking for a triangle but Head pushes his legs off easily.
Head in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Silve has a closed guard, preventing Head from standing up.

Silve has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Head can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Silve seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Head with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Head tries to stand but Silve is controlling from the bottom.

Head content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Head stands up over Silve, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Silve is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Head is controlling him.

Head decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Head fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Silve throws a one two combo.
Horrible takedown attempt by Head or perhaps it was just good defense by Silve, which made it look bad.
Head tries to close the distance and clinch but Silve swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Head has a takedown stuffed.
Nestor Head is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silve goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Head keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Head avoids a punch combination nicely.

and Silve counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Silve.

Head on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Silve is trying to pull guard but Head has him pressed against the cage.
Silve tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Silve has had enough of the clinch but Head keeps him there for the moment.
Head taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Head fails to pull guard.
Silve is working for takedown but Head is calmly controlling the position for now.

Head drags the fight down to the ground.

Silve stops Head from standing up.
Head keeping moving, preventing Silve from controlling successfully.
Head not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Silve tries to close the distance and clinch but Head swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Head shoots in for a takedown but Silve shows good takedown defense.

Silve closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Head is not content to let Silve control the position.
Head wants to control but Silve postures up.
Silve has control of an arm but Head manages to advance to Silve's back!
Head trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Head keeps control of the position as Silve tries to break free.
Head keeps control of the position easily here as Silve tries to buck him off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silve is trapped and Head is scoring with shots to the head and body.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nestor Head.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Head, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
