PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Robles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the cage accompanied by Aint no sunshine. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anderson Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Juan Robles!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Alves does no damage.
Alves blocks a head kick by Robles.
Robles throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alves's waist but Alves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Robles off to one side.

Robles is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alves's half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Robles slows the pace down in half guard.
It looks like Robles might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Robles throwing shots but Alves is blocking nicely.

Alves tries to get to full guard but Robles has control of the leg.
Robles wants to pass the guard but Alves is defending well.

Juan Robles has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Robles closes the distance and clinches up with Alves, looking for a takedown. Robles pushes Alves against the cage but Alves circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A head kick misses from Robles.
Robles leaves Alves with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Alves gets tackled into the cage by Robles. Robles maintains the clinch.
Robles fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Anderson Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Robles.
Alves tries to break the clinch but Robles is controlling the position.
Alves lands a right hand that snaps the head of Robles backwards.

Robles wants to take the fight to the mat but Alves manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Alves throws a head punch that misses.
Alves pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Alves is looking to break free of the clinch but Robles has double underhooks.
Alves wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Robles has him pressed against the cage.
Robles is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Alves pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Alves scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Alves pushes off an throws an elbow but Robles leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Alves has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Alves wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Alves is trying to break free.
Alves using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Robles has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Robles decides to pull guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alves prevents Robles from getting back to his feet.

Alves got a little sloppy there for a moment and Robles has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alves has managed to get both his arms back between Robles's legs - danger averted.
Robles is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Robles pulls Alves in close to his closed guard and prevents Alves from doing any damage or advancing position.
Robles trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Robles wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves scoring with some ground and pound.
Robles wants to stand up but Alves is controlling him.
Robles looks winded!

Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Alves missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Alves lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Robles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Robles lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Alves striking off his back but it's not causing Robles any problems.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Robles slips nicely into half guard.
Alves is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Robles dominated that round.

A big left from Alves misses.
Alves's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Robles connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Alves scrambles back to his feet.

Robles fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alves, pushing him back against the cage.
Alves working hard to break the clinch.

Robles breaks from the clinch.

Robles gets the takedown into side control.
Robles landing strikes.
Robles controlling the position.
Alves misses with an elbow from the bottom.

You can see the frustration on Alves's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Alves tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Robles easily slips into full mount!
Robles working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Robles in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Robles lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Robles is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Alves to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Alves shrugs it off.
Alves is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Robles controlling the pace for now.
Alves tries to hold on but Robles pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Robles wants to control the pace but Alves is squirming around nicely.
Robles sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Robles lands with some strikes.

Robles scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Alves tries to control the position but Robles now has his back.
Robles avoiding Alves 's attempts to control his hands.

Robles trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Robles gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Robles looking to break Alves's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Alves remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Robles will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The referee is taking a good look at Alves as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Robles!
Alves trying to control the action but Robles just sinks the hooks in.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Robles is looking for the choke from the back position but Alves is controlling his hands well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Robles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Alves shoots in for a takedown but Robles shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Alves misses with a takedown attempt - Robles sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Alves fails in his attempt to clinch.
Alves fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alves shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Robles counters with a head kick. That will keep Alves thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Robles shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alves as he avoids it easily.

Robles drives through with a takedown into Alves's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Robles connects with a couple of short punches.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Robles doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Robles manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Robles is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Robles works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Alves wants to control but Robles is keeping busy.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Robles lands a nice short elbow.
Robles lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Robles stands up out of the half guard.
Alves drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Robles tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alves was well out of range. Poor timing from Robles.

Robles has managed to clinch.
Robles keeps control of Alves as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Robles gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Robles gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Juan Robles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Robles shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Alves is trying to defend but Robles finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Robles is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Alves is just riding it out for now. Robles eventually gives up the hold.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Robles is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Alves defends it well.

Robles decides to stand and escape the position.

Juan Robles comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Robles winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
