PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Great One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Victors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Victors has chosen Simba as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Great One!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Victors!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Ron Honeybunn and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
One moves out of range as Victors strikes.
One fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Victors checks it well.
Victors looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
One fails to land the takedown.
One tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Victors swivels and escapes.
Victors goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A nice combination there by One.

One moves into the clinch.
One jumps guard but Victors stands there with One around his waist. One gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Great One. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Victors tries to break free but One pushes him back against the cage.
One keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Victors's efforts to push away.

One breaks the clinch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Victors.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Victors misses with a two punch combination.

One lands a left and a right that send Victors crashing to the mat, dazed. One thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

One scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
One thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Victors's head.

One decides to stand and escape the position.
One misses with a head kick.
Victors throws a push kick but One slaps the foot to one side.
Victors misses with an uppercut.
Victors throws a shot to the body.
Victors throws out a leg kick but One moves out of range and Victors only half commits.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Victors throws a head kick that misses.
Victors just misses with a punch to the body.

One closes the distance and clinches.
One swings away with an uppercut that misses.

One manages to break the clinch.
Victors goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Victors bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Eric Victors is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Victors throws a hook but One avoids it easily.
Victors throws a hook but One blocks it.
One with a nice cross.
One avoids the body shot from Victors.
Victors throws a sloppy body shot
and One cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
One blocks a head kick by Victors.
One shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Victors as he jumps to the side.

One fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Victors to the ground. One is now in Victors's guard.
Victors wants to stand but One is controlling the position.
One sitting in guard, not really doing much.
One has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
One landing some decent shots from guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

One drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and One jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
One with a flurry of punches that miss.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Victors wants to get back to his feet but One is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

One stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Great One dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


One checks the leg kick nicely there.
One darts in looking for a takedown but Victors gets double underhooks and turns One into the cage.
Victors blocks the elbow strike.
Victors wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Victors wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
One is trying to pull guard but Victors has him pressed against the cage.

One ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. One no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

One looking for a guillotine here but Victors defends easily.
One wants to sweep here but Victors controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Victors wants to stand but One is controlling his posture from full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
One pulls Victors in close to his closed guard and prevents Victors from doing any damage or advancing position.
One is trying to hold Victors in close to prevent damage but Victors has managed to pass into half guard.
Victors really doesn't want to stay on the ground with One. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
One is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
One trying to control from the bottom.
One moves into full guard.
Victors won't allow One to sweep him here.
One has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
One looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Victors wants to get up but he can't break One's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
One is pulling down on Victors's head to control his posture.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
One goes for a double leg but Victors avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Victors continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Great One. That's going to take a lot out of him.

One breaks the clinch.
One uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Victors.

One shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Victors's guard.

One drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and One jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
One trying to control but Victors is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Victors can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as One controls the pace.
Great One overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Victors is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and One dives into side control.
One in side control, just content to control the action for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Great One dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


One moves out of range as Victors throws a body kick.
One checks a leg kick nicely.
One misses with a head kick.
One blocks a low kick nicely.
Victors looks to land a right hand but One moved out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Victors throws a sloppy head kick and One moves out of range easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by One or perhaps it was just good defense by Victors, which made it look bad.
Victors throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
One wants to clinch up but Victors keeps it at a distance.
One tries a head kick but it misses.
One tries to clinch but Victors moves away
and Victors counters with a nice body shot.
One takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
One misses with a head kick.
Victors throws a sloppy head kick and One moves out of range easily.
One wants to clinch but Victors slips to the side
and Victors counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A swing and a miss from Victors.
Victors throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Great One is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

One shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. One showed some decent athleticism there.

One wants to work for an arm triangle but Victors is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
One looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Great One just wasn't active enough.

One shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Victors napping and manages to drive through into side control!

One tries for a kimura but Victors is defending well.
A lull in the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Victors is looking to work his way out of this bad position but One is controlling him well.
One is staying tight to Victors's torso, preventing him from escaping.
One advances nicely into full mount.
One takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Great One showed his dominance in that final round.
Well One has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Great One started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
