PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bob Acton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrey Koreskov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koreskov has chosen Небо Славян as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bob Acton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Koreskov!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Acton shoots in for a double leg but Koreskov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Acton shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Koreskov but Koreskov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Acton tries to sprawl but Koreskov drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Acton desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Acton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Koreskov's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Koreskov's back!
Acton is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Koreskov up.
Koreskov is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Acton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Koreskov manages to escape to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Koreskov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Acton napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Acton is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Koreskov is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Acton is in all sorts of trouble here.
Acton tries to hold on but Koreskov pushes him away.

Acton looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Acton looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Acton's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Koreskov doesn't have the hooks in and Acton manages to turn into his guard.
Acton tries to free his leg and advance position but Koreskov is retaining full guard.
Acton slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Koreskov is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Acton wants to control but Koreskov is keeping him busy.
Koreskov is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Koreskov prevents Acton from moving into mount.

Acton passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Koreskov!

Acton looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Acton lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Koreskov hang on?
Koreskov wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Acton looking to control but Koreskov is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Koreskov is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Acton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Koreskov is looking to escape.
Acton won't let Koreskov get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Acton with shots to the head and body - Koreskov looks very uncomfortable down there.

Acton looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

That was a close round but I would say that Bob Acton will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Koreskov looking to score a takedown here. Acton is defending well but Koreskov drives through and ends up in Acton's guard.

Acton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Acton wants to improve his position but instead Koreskov has moved into half guard.
Acton trying to control but Koreskov postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Acton is trying to control but Koreskov passes into side control!
Koreskov gets to mount! Acton was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Acton is trying to get back to full guard.
Acton is working hard here to advance position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bob Acton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Acton trying to control but Koreskov postures up.
Acton has a hand on Koreskov's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Koreskov takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Koreskov stands up from mount. Strange move.

Koreskov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Acton did well to prevent Koreskov getting side control.
Acton is looking for a sweep. Koreskov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Acton wants to control but Koreskov is keeping busy.
Acton tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Koreskov has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Acton tries to lock up and control but Koreskov gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Acton is looking to improve his position but Koreskov isn't that keen on the idea.

Koreskov stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Acton has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrey Koreskov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Acton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Koreskov pinned against the cage. Koreskov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Acton dives in for a single leg takedown but Koreskov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Koreskov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Acton tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Acton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Acton goes for a takedown attempt but Koreskov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Acton tries to control Koreskov's body but Koreskov pushes him off. Acton squirms to his side and now Koreskov has his back!

Acton tries to roll but Koreskov sticks to his back.
Koreskov is not going to allow Acton to sit and survive in this position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Koreskov controlling well, preventing Acton from escaping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Acton trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Acton tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Koreskov is looking to stand but Koreskov has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Acton is wriggling around trying to escape.
Koreskov avoids the attempt from Acton to control.
Acton looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Andrey Koreskov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Koreskov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
