Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Leopoldo Hewitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Velas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leopoldo Hewitt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Antonio Velas! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hewitt. Hewitt takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Velas misses with a few strikes there.
Velas scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Velas swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hewitt really is a fat lump. Some wild striking there from Velas.
Hewitt shoots in for a double leg but Velas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Velas pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Velas tries to bum rush Hewitt with a series of wild strikes but Hewitt uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Hewitt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Velas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Hewitt trying to control the position from guard on top but Velas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Velas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Hewitt gets to his feet - Velas follows without any prompting.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velas looks to land a combination but Hewitt avoids it well. Velas missing with a left hand there. Hewitt was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Velas scores with a body shot.

Velas tries to bum rush Hewitt with a series of wild strikes but Hewitt uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Velas misses with a two punch combination.
Velas connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Velas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hewitt moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Velas misses with a body shot
and Hewitt counters with a shoot takedown. Velas fights it but they end up in guard. Velas looks winded! Hewitt stands up from guard. Let's bang! Velas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hewitt circles away quickly and effectively. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Velas jabbing away but nothing is landing. Velas misses with a wild combination.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Velas swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hewitt counters with a takedown into side control. Hewitt controls the position. Hewitt scoring with punches and elbows. The referee asks Hewitt politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hewitt prefers to stall for the moment though. Velas taking a bit of punishment here - Hewitt scoring with strikes. Velas takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hewitt is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Velas has escaped the position, nice work there. Hewitt wants to control but Velas is keeping him busy. Hewitt cracks Velas with a big right hand but Velas just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Velas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hewitt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Velas on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hewitt is working Velas over with some ground and pound from side control. Hewitt lands a few punches from side control. Hewitt working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velas can do anything to dispel that myth. Hewitt lands an elbow. Hewitt has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Velas is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Hewitt yanks on the arm and Velas is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Hewitt.
