PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gaston Dean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Boyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gaston Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Boyd!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dean gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Boyd to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Dean pulls Boyd in close to his closed guard and prevents Boyd from doing any damage or advancing position.
Boyd slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alex Boyd wasn't active enough on the ground.

Boyd shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Dean manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Boyd is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Boyd should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Dean changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Boyd fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Boyd throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dean was covering up waiting for the punch and Boyd finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Dean shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Dean was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boyd can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dean will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Boyd is looking to escape.

Boyd is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Boyd. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Dean thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boyd's head.
Boyd is trying to stand up here but Dean is controlling him well.
Dean tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dean changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Boyd tries to avoid it but Dean manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Boyd to the ground. Boyd escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
