Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, George Gilbert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Danny Lynch! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gilbert misses with a takedown attempt - Lynch sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Gilbert throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lynch's waist but Lynch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gilbert off to one side. Lynch staying out of range there. Lynch misses with the combination.
Gilbert wants to clinch but Lynch slips to the side and Lynch makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Gilbert shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Gilbert. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gilbert dives in for a single leg takedown but Lynch sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Lynch is looking to break free of the clinch but Gilbert has double underhooks. Gilbert is looking for a takedown. Gilbert has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Lynch regains guard immediately. Gilbert drops back looking for a leg! Lynch is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lynch manages to kick Gilbert off! Gilbert jumps back into Lynch's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gilbert thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gilbert won't allow Lynch to get back to his feet. Gilbert drops back looking for a leg! Lynch is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lynch manages to kick Gilbert off! Gilbert jumps back into Lynch's guard. Gilbert trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gilbert pushing down on Lynch's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Gilbert seems to be working for a kimura but Lynch defends the submission attempt. Gilbert wants to free his trapped foot but Lynch is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Lynch is in trouble now - Gilbert has advanced to mount! Gilbert looking to isolate an arm here. Lynch doesn't see it coming and as Gilbert extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Gilbert!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). George Gilbert! After the fight, George Gilbert was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
