Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Smeer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Clay Morrows! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smeer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Morrows is defending against the submission attempts here by Smeer.
Smeer works his way into side control. Smeer lands a nice forearm strike.
It looks like Clay Morrows has been cut. Smeer working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smeer is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Morrows is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Smeer moves into full mount! Smeer scoring with strikes but Morrows is staying in there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smeer working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smeer moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Morrows has worked his arm free - good work by Morrows!
Morrows is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Smeer is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Smeer is landing with some decent strikes but Morrows is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The cut above Clay Morrows's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Clay Morrows's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
