Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kobe Beef! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bret Schultz! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schultz moves out of range of the strikes. Beef lands a jab to the head.
Beef throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Schultz sees it coming and avoids it easily. Schultz takes a jab right on the kisser.
Kobe Beef seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schultz shoots in for a takedown but Beef shows good takedown defense. Beef misses with an uppercut
and Schultz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Beef's guard. Schultz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Schultz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Beef has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Schultz has managed to get both his arms back between Beef's legs - danger averted. Beef is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schultz defends well. Schultz trying to control the position from guard on top but Beef is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Schultz passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beef looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Beef wants to improve his position but Schultz is controlling well.
Schultz missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Beef is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Beef's coaches at ~T~ Troid - Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schultz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Beef has managed to free his arm - good work. Beef is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Schultz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Beef defends it well. Beef looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Beef is looking for a sweep. Schultz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Beef is pressing down on Schultz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Schultz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Beef's guard. Beef actively working from the bottom here. Beef is looking for a sweep. Schultz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. My spies in Ground Zero, Las Vegas (LOD) inform me that Schultz has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Beef looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Schultz seems to be working for a kimura but Beef defends the submission attempt. Schultz is working for a submission of some sort.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Beef is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Schultz pulls his head out easily. Beef tries to roll over but Schultz keeps him under control. Beef makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Beef. Beef keeping moving, preventing Schultz from controlling successfully. Beef working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Schultz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Schultz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Beef is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Schultz is aware though and is defending well. Beef keeping full guard, as Schultz tries to pass. Beef has his foot on Schultz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Schultz works his way back into a safe position though. Schultz trying to control but Beef is working from the bottom. Beef looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Schultz wants to control from the top but Beef keeps moving. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Schultz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Beef looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schultz is one step ahead there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Kobe Beef will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Schultz tries to clinch up but Beef circles away and keeps his distance. Schultz slips a jab and a cross from Beef.
Schultz takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Schultz on the wrong end of a nice hook. Schultz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Schultz misses with a body shot.
Beef is trying hard to land a takedown here. Schultz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Beef misses with a hook. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Beef feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Schultzs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Beef throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Schultz moves out of range of the strikes. Schultz on the wrong end of a nice hook. Beef connects with a single shot there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beef looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Beef shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Beef passes to full mount! Schultz srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.
Beef missing with punches from the back. Beef is looking for the choke from the back position but Schultz is controlling his hands well. Beef is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Schultz won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Beef off his unconscious opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kobe Beef! Kobe Beef is the new light heavyweight champion! Kobe Beef thanked the fans post fight for their support.
