Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mel Massey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tashy McTashigan! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McTashigan shoots and misses and Massey moves into the clinch. McTashigan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Massey fails to pull guard.
McTashigan pulls guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Massey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Massey stands up over McTashigan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Massey is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Massey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mel Massey has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Massey fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McTashigan, pushing him back against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. McTashigan wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Massey has him pressed against the cage. Massey on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Massey gets control of McTashigan's arms and successfully pulls guard. Massey will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Massey throws his legs up looking for a submission but McTashigan uses it to pass to side control.
Massey manages to work his way to half guard, despite McTashigan's best efforts. Massey is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McTashigan pulls his head out easily. Massey slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McTashigan prevents Massey from getting back to his feet. McTashigan won't allow Massey to sweep him here. McTashigan trying to control but Massey is working from the bottom. Massey wants to sweep here but McTashigan controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Massey tries to strike from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Massey is on top in guard.
Massey has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. McTashigan is working an open guard so Massey takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Tashy McTashigan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. McTashigan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. McTashigan misses with a takedown enabling Massey to counter with a crisp jab. McTashigan looks winded! McTashigan with a poor takedown and Massey counters with a nice double leg into guard. Mel Massey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tashy McTashigan. Massey seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Massey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Mel Massey wasn't doing enough on the ground. McTashigan doesn't succeed with the takedown and Massey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Massey's corner is telling him to maintain position. McTashigan trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Massey slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mel Massey. McTashigan instigates a clinch. An uppercut to the body lands inside from McTashigan. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Massey manages to pull guard.
Massey throws his legs up looking for a submission but McTashigan uses it to pass to side control.
Massey manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Massey works his way to full guard. Good work. Massey wants to sweep here but McTashigan controlling him for the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Massey fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McTashigan sprawls well initially but Massey persists and gets the takedown into half guard. McTashigan is trying to stand back up but Massey is controlling him
McTashigan wants to get back to full guard. Massey has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, McTashigan works to full guard. Massey slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Massey stands up over McTashigan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. McTashigan has a closed guard, preventing Massey from standing up. Massey is looking to work some ground and pound but McTashigan has wrist control. Mel Massey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Massey sitting in guard here, content to control. Massey has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mel Massey. McTashigan with a poor takedown and Massey counters by clinching up. McTashigan is breathing heavily.

McTashigan stalling in the clinch but Massey improves position. McTashigan looking for a takedown. Mel Massey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tashy McTashigan. Massey jumps guard but McTashigan stands there with Massey around his waist. Massey gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Massey tightens his grip and picks McTashigan up, before dumping him to the ground. McTashigan manages to land in guard. Massey stands up from McTashigan's guard - Massey perhaps looking for a knockout. Massey drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Massey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Massey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! McTashigan being controlled for a moment. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Massey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McTashigan has escaped the position, nice work there. Massey scoring with punches from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McTashigan tries to improve position but can't. Massey scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McTashigan to see if he's OK. A lull in the action here. Massey thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Massey stands up and we're back to a striking position. Massey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in McTashigan's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Massey controlling from the top position. Massey seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McTashigan for as long as he can get away with. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Massey content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Massey is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Massey takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Massey escapes and gets back to his feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Massey dives in and scores a takedown into McTashigan's guard. Massey is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Massey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McTashigan tries for a takedown but Massey circles away easily and Massey counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McTashigan's guard now. Massey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. McTashigan misses with a wild body shot. Massey feints and as McTashigan raises his hands in defense, Massey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Massey sitting in guard here, content to control.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Massey not landing any meaningful shots this time.
