Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brain Swanson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Gracie! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie moves out of range of the leg kick from Swanson. Vitor Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gracie scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Swanson is looking for a sweep. Gracie grinds an elbow into Swanson's temple. Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Gracie tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Swanson, who protects the arm well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gracie landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Swanson manages to get back to half guard. Swanson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Gracie with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Swanson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.
Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Swanson's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Swanson is retaining full guard. Gracie postures up and lands a big shot to Swanson's brow.
Swanson is rocked! Gracie is in close to Swanson's body, working some short punches and elbows. Oh Swanson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Gracie gets to his feet and stands over Swanson, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Swanson felt that one! Gracie unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Swanson from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Vitor Gracie! Vitor Gracie seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
