PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Macario Sakay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kahwaah Jeeri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sakay comes into the arena with alab ng puso by rivermaya blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kahwaah Jeeri was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Macario Sakay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kahwaah Jeeri!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jeeri gets a double leg takedown into Sakay's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sakay looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sakay trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Jeeri slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kahwaah Jeeri was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Jeeri throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sakay tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jeeri is in Sakay's guard.

Kahwaah Jeeri has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Jeeri closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sakay did well to prevent Jeeri getting side control.
Sakay scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Jeeri manages to mount him!
Jeeri wants to control the pace but Sakay is squirming around nicely.
Jeeri tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sakay has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jeeri sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
We've been informed that Jeeri has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Sakay holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Jeeri tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Sakay is in all sorts of trouble here.

Jeeri wants to control the pace but Sakay is squirming around nicely.

Sakay is trying desperately to improve position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kahwaah Jeeri wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sakay shoots in looking for a takedown but Jeeri manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sakay's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kahwaah Jeeri dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jeeri leaves Sakay with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Jeeri shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jeeri showed some decent athleticism there.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kahwaah Jeeri.

Jeeri takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Jeeri seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sakay does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Jeeri is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Jeeri shoots in and bounces Sakay off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jeeri uses his free foot to push down on Sakay's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sakay.
Sakay is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Sakay wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Jeeri.
Sakay is in a horrible position here. Jeeri smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Jeeri has hold of Sakay's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sakay manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kahwaah Jeeri showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Jeeri decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Sakay is looking to improve his position.
Sakay flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jeeri stops Sakay from getting back to his feet.
Jeeri frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sakay is trying to escape the mount but Jeeri keeps good control and instead manages to take Sakay's back.

Jeeri is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sakay has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Sakay is trying to stand back up.

Jeeri controls the position.
Jeeri thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Jeeri has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Sakay has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Jeeri controlling the position well here. Sakay rolled but Jeeri kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Kahwaah Jeeri has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sakay is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Jeeri gets his way!

Jeeri is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Jeeri gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Jeeri gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Jeeri apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Jeeri is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sakay!

Jeeri takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sakay srikes from the bottom but he's lost position and has given up his back.

Jeeri has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Jeeri is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Kahwaah Jeeri is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kahwaah Jeeri comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jeeri has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
