Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hiro Sakurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manny Fernando (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sakurai comes to the cage accompanied by Blood Rave. Fernando comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Miss Jackson kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Hiro Sakurai has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hiro Sakurai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manny Fernando! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sakurai fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fernando, pushing him back against the cage. Sakurai has Fernando pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sakurai pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Fernando tumbling to the mat - Sakurai dives into Fernando's guard. Fernando pulls Sakurai in close to prevent any damage. Sakurai with a nice head shot there. Sakurai chips away with some ground and pound. Fernando escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sakurai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sakurai working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sakurai wants to control from the top but Fernando keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernando escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sakurai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Fernando wants to sweep here but Sakurai controlling him for the moment. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sakurai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Fernando looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sakurai won't allow Fernando to sweep him here. Fernando is trying to control the position but Sakurai postures up. Fernando wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Sakurai is stalling in the full guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Fernando closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sakurai circles away. Sakurai shoots in and bounces Fernando off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Fernando controls Sakurai momentarily but Sakurai frees himself. Sakurai trying to control the position from guard on top but Fernando is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sakurai trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Fernando tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sakurai throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fernando works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Fernando had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sakurai defends it easily. Sakurai showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Sakurai trying to control but Fernando is working from the bottom. Fernando is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Sakurai working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Fernando has passed into half guard!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fernando keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hiro Sakurai dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Sakurai throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fernando tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sakurai is in Fernando's guard. Sakurai will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Fernando is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fernando is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sakurai trying to control but Fernando is working from the bottom. Sakurai preventing the sweep. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fernando is trying to keep Sakurai in close.

That's one minute gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fernando is on top in guard.
Fernando's corner is telling him to maintain position. Sakurai definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Fernando won't allow Sakurai to get back to his feet. Fernando must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Sakurai throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Fernando decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fernando looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sakurai is fending him off so far but Fernando persists. Nope, Sakurai circles away and we're back to standing. Fernando tries to clinch there but Sakurai circles away.
Hiro Sakurai is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fernando shoots in and drives through. Sakurai sprawls well. Fernando closes the distance and clinches up with Sakurai, looking for a takedown. Fernando pushes Sakurai against the cage but Sakurai circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Fernando has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Sakurai is landing a low percentage of strikes. Hiro Sakurai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manny Fernando. Sakurai shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sakurai showed some decent athleticism there. Sakurai working Fernando over with strikes. Hiro Sakurai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Fernando keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Fernando keeping hold of Sakurai's head, controlling as best he can. Fernando wants to control but Sakurai is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fernando is staying active underneath Sakurai, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Sakurai wants to free his trapped foot but Fernando is holding on for dear life with his legs. Fernando wants to improve his position but Sakurai is controlling well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Fernando tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sakurai defends well and Fernando ends up having to push Sakurai into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Fernando drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sakurai gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Sakurai shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sakurai was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Sakurai is staying tight to Fernando's torso, preventing him from escaping. Fernando struggling a bit here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sakurai tries to score with some ground and pound. Fernando controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Sakurai in the domination position with Fernando hanging on. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sakurai wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fernando, who protects the arm well. A control attempt from Fernando but he's now mounted!
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernando wants to hold on but Sakurai pushes him away. Sakurai cracks Fernando with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Sakurai tries to control but Fernando wriggling away. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Fernando keeps trying to improve his position. Fernando is squirming around, avoiding Sakurai's attempts to control the action. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Sakurai can't control as he wanted to and Fernando manages to get the fight back to his half guard. Manny Fernando has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Fernando is refusing to be controlled, as Sakurai sits in half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Hiro Sakurai showed his dominance in that final round. Well Sakurai has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
