Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Minh Mays! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Martin! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mays's half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mays is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Martin looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Martin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mays doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Martin. Mays tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control. Martin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mays with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Martin slips a nice elbow through Mays's hands, connecting with Mays's forehead.
Mays is rocked!
It looks like Minh Mays has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Martin slips a nice elbow through Mays's hands, connecting with Mays's forehead. Oh Mays is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Martin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Martin has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Mays defend it? Martin steps over the head and cranks it - Mays is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Martin!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Chris Martin! A less than humble Chris Martin misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
