Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alonzo Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges Stpierre!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stpierre fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Barnes sprawls well initially but Stpierre persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Stpierre trying to control the action but Barnes is working from the bottom.
Barnes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Barnes wants to get back to his feet.
Stpierre looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Barnes wants to get back to full guard.
Stpierre content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Georges Stpierre hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Stpierre rushes Barnes and presses him up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Barnes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Stpierre uses from the top position.
Barnes looking for a guillotine here but Stpierre defends easily.
Stpierre working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Barnes has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Stpierre has passed into side control.
Stpierre wants to control but Barnes is keeping him busy.
An elbow from Stpierre crashes against the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stpierre stands up and beckons Barnes to his feet.
Alonzo Barnes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stpierre closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Barnes quickly recovers to half guard.
Stpierre works his way into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stpierre stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A momentary lapse in concentration from Barnes enables Stpierre to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Barnes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Stpierre passes Barnes's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stpierre wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barnes keeps working.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stpierre decides to stand and escape the position.
Stpierre slips under a jab from Barnes.
Stpierre is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barnes's half guard.
Stpierre prevents Barnes from improving his position.
Barnes is working hard here to advance position.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stpierre is keen to just control but Barnes is a slippery customer.
Stpierre escapes and gets back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stpierre misses the jab.
Stpierre walks forward, straight into a front kick from Barnes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stpierre scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Georges Stpierre dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Stpierre scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Barnes is rocked!
Stpierre closes the distance looking for a takedown. Barnes stuffs it but Stpierre still has hold of him. Stpierre picks Barnes up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Stpierre slams Barnes to the floor and that's really hurt Barnes - he doesn't know where he is! Stpierre throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Georges Stpierre!
