Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Connors! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kablev Spake! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spake has a takedown stuffed. Connors closes the distance and lands a one-two. Spake gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Connors counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Connors. Connors pushes Spake back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Connors lands a knee to the body.
Spake looks winded! Connors escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Connors gets a double leg takedown into Spake's guard. Connors stands and throws Spake's legs to the side, diving into side control. Spake is letting Connors control him for a moment. Spake takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Spake tries to improve position but can't. Connors misses with the ground and pound. A lull in the action here. Connors tries to move into full mount but can't pass Spake's legs. Spake sneaks back into half guard. Connors with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Connors looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Spake is looking to improve his position.
Connors knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spake on the ground. Spake keeps trying to improve his position. Spake slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Connors is looking to stand up but Spake won't let him. Connors is stalling in the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Mike Connors just wasn't active enough. Connors lands a slapping body shot.
Spake tries to clinch up but Connors circles away and keeps his distance. Connors with a body punch. A glancing blow. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Connors!
Connors clinches.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Connors's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Connors throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Spake's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Connors dives in looking to finish as Spake flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Connors's strikes! Connors is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Spake's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Spake was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Connors!
