Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eugene Washington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Brdjan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter Brdjan! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brdjan sizes up Washington with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Brdjan looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Brdjan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Washington napping and manages to drive through into side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Brdjan stands up and beckons Washington to his feet. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Washington. Brdjan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Brdjan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Washington sprawls well initially but Brdjan persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Washington throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Washington moves into full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Washington striking off his back but it's not causing Brdjan any problems. Washington swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Brdjan feints and as Washington raises his hands in defense, Brdjan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Brdjan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Brdjan tries to free his leg and advance position but Washington is retaining full guard. Brdjan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Brdjan is looking to work some ground and pound but Washington has wrist control. Brdjan wants to control from the top but Washington keeps moving. Brdjan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Washington tries to land a sweep but no joy. Brdjan just stands there and leans against the cage. Brdjan throws a punch but it's blocked by Washington. Washington breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brdjan clinches. Brdjan tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Washington tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Brdjan smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eugene Washington. That's going to take a lot out of him. Brdjan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Washington is working to avoid the ground and pound but Brdjan connects with a decent elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eugene Washington will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Washington connecting with a few gentle strikes. Washington might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Brdjan passes the guard and advances to mount! Brdjan lands a couple of good shots and Washington has given up his back, trying to escape the position! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Brdjan scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

And that's the end of the fight! Peter Brdjan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Brdjan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
