Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dexter Morgan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sergey Vasilyev! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Morgan. Those never looked like landing. Morgan cracks Vasilyev with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Morgan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Morgan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Morgan throws a right hand that Vasilyev ducks under and follows up with a left that Vasilyev also avoids with ease. Morgan lands a jab to Vasilyev's midsection. Morgan cracks Vasilyev with an open hand slap. Morgan connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Morgan lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Morgan definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Vasilyev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vasilyev lands in his opponent's guard. Vasilyev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morgan swivels though and keeps the full guard. Vasilyev wants to control from the top but Morgan keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vasilyev forces his way into half guard. Vasilyev is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Vasilyev is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Vasilyev looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Vasilyev trying to control the action but Morgan is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vasilyev is pressing down on Morgan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Morgan is holding on for now. Morgan is defending against the submission attempts here by Vasilyev.
Vasilyev is working for a kimura but Morgan is defending it quite comfortably.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morgan wants to get back to his feet. Vasilyev is trying to control the action in half guard but Morgan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Vasilyev is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Vasilyev is trying for a kimura here. Morgan looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Vasilyev wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sergey Vasilyev! After the fight, Sergey Vasilyev was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
