PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Polish Engineer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piru Parka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parka has chosen as his entrance music. Piru Parka acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Polish Engineer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Piru Parka!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parka doesn't manage to clinch there - Engineer circles away.
Engineer scores with a jab to the body.

Parka closes the distance and pushes Engineer back into the cage.
Engineer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Engineer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Parka has him pressed against the cage.

Engineer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Parka has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Engineer throws a hook to the side of Parka's head but Parka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Engineer counters with a right hand to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Parka takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Parka moves out of range of the body kick from Engineer.
Engineer keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Engineer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Parka to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Parka stands up over Engineer, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Engineer holds on and takes a little breather.

Engineer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Parka working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Engineer's head.

Parka has gone for a leg lock! Engineer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Parka's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Parka is on top in guard.

Engineer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Parka's guard.

Parka is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Engineer trying to control but Parka is working from the bottom.
Engineer looking to sit in guard and control but Parka gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Parka accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Parka wants to control from the top but Engineer keeps moving.
Engineer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Polish Engineer will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Engineer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Parkas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Engineer misses with a low kick.
Parka uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Engineer.
Parka fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Engineer avoids it really well and circles away.

and Engineer counters with a single leg into guard. Parka didn't expect that.
Polish Engineer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Parka working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Engineer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Engineer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Engineer here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Engineer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Parka can do to turn this around?

Parka trying to control the position from guard on top but Engineer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Engineer wants to stand and escape but Parka is having none of it.

Parka has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Parka tries to clinch but Engineer is having none of it.

Engineer misses with a two punch combination.
Parka takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Parka has his takedown stuffed
and Engineer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Engineer is looking to wear down Parka with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Engineer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Parka stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Parka takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Parka moves to clinch but Engineer breaks away
and Engineer makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Parka is breathing heavily.

Engineer throws a solid leg kick but Parka takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Engineer.
Engineer fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Parka wants to clinch.
Engineer walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Parka checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Engineer scores with a jab to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Engineer connects with a right hand. Parka shakes it off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Polish Engineer dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Engineer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Parka keeps working.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Engineer is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Parka is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Parka tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Engineer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Engineer is just content to waste time from the top position. Parka takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Engineer cracks Parka with a solid left hand.

Parka has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Engineer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Parka is not content to let Engineer control the position.
Parka keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Engineer looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Parka is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Parka tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Engineer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Parka does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Engineer slows the pace down in half guard.
Polish Engineer is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Engineer's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Engineer uses his free foot to push down on Parka's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Parka.

Parka is bucking up trying to escape but Engineer cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Engineer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Parka is looking to escape.
BOOM! Engineer connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Parka is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Polish Engineer showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Engineer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Polish Engineer thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
