The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wakeling looking to score a takedown here. Hoffman is defending well but Wakeling drives through and ends up in Hoffman's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wakeling accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wakeling has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hoffman is proving hard to escape from.
Wakeling drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wakeling jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hoffman has momentary wrist control but Wakeling slips an elbow through the middle.

Wakeling tries to stand but Hoffman is controlling from the bottom.
Hoffman working for a triangle but Wakeling defends it easily.

Wakeling controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Wakeling shoots in and drives through. Hoffman sprawls well.
Wakeling closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hoffman quickly recovers to half guard.

Hoffman is squirming around, avoiding Wakeling's attempts to control the action.

Wakeling can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hoffman is looking to escape.
Wakeling has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hoffman's face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hoffman tries to close the distance and clinch but Wakeling swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hoffman shoots for a double leg takedown but Wakeling sprawls well. He's pushed Hoffman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hoffman wants to sweep but no luck.

and Wakeling counters by clinching up.
Hoffman misses with a knee to the head.
Wakeling jumps guard and drags Hoffman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Wakeling is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hoffman throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Wakeling's body to avoid the submission. Wakeling has instead reached around Hoffman's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Wakeling arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
