Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jhonny Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jhonny Mercer has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jhonny Mercer seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jhonny Mercer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Martin! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Mercer is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Martin tries for a kimura but Mercer is defending well. Martin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Mercer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Martin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Martin lands an elbow. Martin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Mercer down.
Martin working the strikes but Mercer uses the opportunity to regain half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Martin trying to advance position but Mercer counters by regaining guard. Mercer is controlling Martin's posture. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Martin chips away with some ground and pound. Martin works over Mercer with some ground and pound from guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Martin is concentrating on defense, preventing Mercer from advancing position. Martin moves into full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Martin can do anything to dispel that myth. Martin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mercer is fighting to break Martin's control of his arms but Martin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Martin is looking to sweep but instead, Mercer has passed into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martin regains full guard. Nicely done. Martin lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Martin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mercer throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Martin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mercer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Martin has Mercer in his guard. Mercer trying to control the position from guard on top but Martin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mercer stopping the sweep attempt from Martin. Martin has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Mercer off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Mercer stuffs the takedown. Mercer gets caught napping as Martin dives in and scores a takedown. Mercer manages to retain guard. Martin throwing strikes from guard but Mercer blocks nicely. Mercer looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mercer is breathing heavily. Martin stopping the sweep attempt from Mercer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martin is in close to Mercer's body, working some short punches and elbows. Martin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Martin with a nice head shot there. Martin scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Martin lands a couple of digs. Martin landing with the ground and pound. Martin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Martin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Martin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Martin scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Martin postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Martin dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Martin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mercer quickly recovers to half guard. Martin lands strikes from half guard.
Mercer is rocked! Martin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Oh Mercer is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Martin is looking for a kimura but Mercer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Martin to get the leverage. Mercer seems to have got his legs back now. Mercer tries to roll over but Martin keeps him under control. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Martin lands a nice short elbow. Martin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mercer is just riding it out for now. Martin eventually gives up the hold. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Martin working the head and body with strikes. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Martin looking for a submission but Mercer manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Martin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mercer's head. Mercer keeping full guard, as Martin tries to pass. Mercer is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Martin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mercer's head. Martin with a nice head shot there. Martin pushes down on Mercer's leg and manages to get into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mercer has hold of Martin's hands but Martin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Martin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Martin seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Mercer is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Chris Martin! A very excited looking Chris Martin rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
