Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Jorge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Ponting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jorge comes into the arena with Back in black blaring out of the sound system. Ricky Ponting has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with James Jorge's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 24 - 1, fighting out of London, James Jorge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricky Ponting!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ponting gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Jorge.
Ponting loads up on a big right hand but Jorge slips the punch.
Jorge is looking to score with low kicks.
Jorge fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ponting avoids it really well and circles away.
Jorge scores with a hook to the body. Ponting takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Ponting misses with a straight left.
Jorge lands a nice shot to the body.
Ponting's coach down at McGarrys plant works was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Ponting's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Jorge fails to land the takedown.
Nice uppercut there from Jorge.
Ponting avoids the body shot from Jorge.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ponting tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ponting shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jorge as he avoids it easily.
James Jorge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jorge shoots for a takedown but Ponting saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Ponting takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Ponting misses with an uppercut. Jorge saw that one coming.
Jorge scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Jorge throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ponting.

Jorge fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ponting throws out a leg kick but Jorge moves out of range and Ponting only half commits.
Jorge connects with a solid leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Jorge. No joy for Ponting on that attempt.
Jorge looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ponting takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Jorge takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Jorge counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ponting throws a jab when Jorge was well out of range.
Ponting avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ponting showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jorge.
Ponting connects with the punch.
Jorge scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Ponting tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jorge was well out of range. Poor timing from Ponting.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jorge is defended easily by Ponting.
Ponting shoots in and drives through. Jorge sprawls well.
Jorge throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jorge. Ponting does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jorge slips under a jab from Ponting.
Jorge tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ponting sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jorge somewhat.

Jorge changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ponting looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ponting is looking for a sweep.
Ponting is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jorge is controlling him well.
Jorge is chipping away with strikes.
Ponting is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ponting wants to control but Jorge postures up.

Jorge is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ponting knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jorge has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Jorge is landing with some decent strikes but Ponting is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Jorge wants to control the pace but Ponting is squirming around nicely.

Jorge is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ponting has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Jorge ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ponting moves away.
The fighters circling - Ponting throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Jorge throws a hook but Ponting avoids it easily.

Jorge shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ponting is trying to defend but Jorge finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Jorge is taking a breather. Ponting says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ponting missing with punches from the bottom.
Jorge seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ponting does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ponting keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Jorge is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ponting can do to turn this around?

Jorge throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ponting tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jorge is in Ponting's guard.

Ponting is looking for a triangle but Jorge pushes his legs off easily.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jorge seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jorge closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ponting to the mat! Ponting manages to get full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jorge thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Ponting shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jorge but Jorge pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nice straight punches there by Jorge. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Jorge.
Jorge looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ponting takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Jorge lands with a nice combination. Ponting backs away looking to recover.
Ponting's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Jorge connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Ponting scrambles back to his feet.

Jorge shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ponting napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ponting is trying to control Jorge's posture but Jorge avoids it.
Jorge grinds an elbow into Ponting's temple.
Ponting takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jorge working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Jorge cracks Ponting with a big right hand but Ponting just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Jorge connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Ponting some visible discomfort.

James Jorge is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ponting is trying to work for a sweep but Jorge has mounted him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jorge has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ponting's face.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Jorge showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jorge has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
