Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joesph Wyatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joesph Wyatt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Mercer! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mercer clinches up against the cage. Mercer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Wyatt tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mercer smiles and moves away.
Mercer closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wyatt circles away. Mercer fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wyatt, pushing him back against the cage. Wyatt has picked Mercer up - he's going for a ride! Wyatt dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Wyatt missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Wyatt wants to get back to his feet.
Mercer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Wyatt thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wyatt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mercer defending well though. Wyatt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mercer keeps working. Wyatt is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mercer sees it coming and defends easily. Wyatt winds up and cracks Mercer with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Wyatt controlling the action here. Mercer is trying to stand back up but Wyatt is controlling him

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wyatt takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Wyatt gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Wyatt dives in for a single leg takedown but Mercer sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Mercer tries to pull guard but Wyatt holds him up against the cage and eventually Mercer drops back down to his feet.
Wyatt throws a knee to the head but misses.

Mercer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Wyatt keeping full guard, as Mercer tries to pass. Mercer throws a big elbow that misses. Wyatt wants to stand up but Mercer is controlling him. Mercer lands a couple of elbows. Mercer is looking to pass into half guard but Wyatt pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Wyatt is in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wyatt wants to get up but he can't break Mercer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Wyatt scoring with punches to the head and body. Mercer has a closed guard, preventing Wyatt from standing up. Wyatt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Wyatt with a flurry of punches that miss. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wyatt trying to control the position from guard on top but Mercer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mercer has a closed guard, preventing Wyatt from standing up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joesph Wyatt dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Mercer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wyatt defends it nicely. Nice sprawl there from Wyatt as Mercer shoots in. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wyatt shoots in but no luck this time. Mercer is breathing heavily. Mercer misses with a jab, cross combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wyatt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mercer swivels and escapes. Wyatt shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Wyatt with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Mercer preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Wyatt stands up over Mercer, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Wyatt thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Wyatt stays in close to Mercer's body and controls the position. Mercer has a closed guard, preventing Wyatt from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wyatt has gone for a leg lock! Mercer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wyatt's guard. Joesph Wyatt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Wyatt controlling Mercer's posture. Wyatt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wyatt tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mercer controls his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Wyatt is looking for a kimura but Mercer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wyatt to get the leverage. Wyatt controlling the action here. Wyatt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mercer defending well though. Wyatt wants to control but Mercer is keeping him busy. Mercer is looking for a sweep. Wyatt is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Mercer is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joesph Wyatt dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
No luck for Wyatt with that takedown attempt. Wyatt clinches up against the cage. Mercer dodges an elbow strike from Wyatt.

That's one minute gone in the round. Wyatt is trying to pull guard but Mercer turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Wyatt drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mercer gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joesph Wyatt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mercer drags the fight down to the ground.
Mercer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mercer keeping moving, preventing Wyatt from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wyatt lands a couple of digs. Wyatt won't allow Mercer to get back to his feet. Wyatt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wyatt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Mercer has a closed guard, preventing Wyatt from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wyatt stands up from guard. Let's bang! Mercer stuffs the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mercer throws a series of punches but Wyatt moves out of range. Wyatt misses with a takedown and Mercer counters with a series of strikes. Wyatt will be more careful next time no doubt. James Mercer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Wyatt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Mercer is not content to let Wyatt control the position. Wyatt moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The ground and pound from Wyatt seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Wyatt is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mercer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Mercer takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. James Mercer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Joesph Wyatt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wyatt controlling the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Joesph Wyatt showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wyatt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
