PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matt Shark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yan Beliveau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Shark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yan Beliveau!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beliveau defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shark.

Beliveau rushes Shark and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Beliveau stalling in the clinch.

Beliveau pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Shark goes for a double leg but Beliveau avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Beliveau continues to drive forward.
Shark could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Shark wants to take the fight to the mat but Beliveau manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Shark. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shark has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Beliveau is trying to keep an underhook but Shark manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Shark is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Beliveau is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shark's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shark's back!

Beliveau wants to control but Shark is keeping busy.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Shark seems to be looking for submissions.
Beliveau is looking to control Shark's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Beliveau avoid being mounted?

Shark wants to lay and pray for a moment but Beliveau keeps working.
Beliveau is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Shark looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Beliveau keeping moving, preventing Shark from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Shark is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Beliveau is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Donk. Beliveau catches Shark right on the button with a cross.

Beliveau tries to clinch up but Shark circles away and keeps his distance.
Beliveau walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shark checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Shark doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shark will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Beliveau thuds his shin into the meat of Shark's side.
Beliveau scores with a spinning back kick!

Beliveau tries to clinch but Shark moves out of range.
Beliveau throws a sloppy head kick and Shark moves out of range easily.
Shark throws a half hearted mid kick.
Yan Beliveau is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Beliveau tries to sprawl but Shark drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Beliveau looks winded!
Beliveau is looking to improve his position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shark is looking to take a break and control but Beliveau is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Shark is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Beliveau has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Shark will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Shark shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Beliveau but Beliveau pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Beliveau wants to clinch.
Shark blocks a head kick by Beliveau.

Beliveau lands a knee to the body.

Beliveau is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Shark changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Beliveau fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Shark dives in for a single leg takedown but Beliveau sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Shark is trying to drag Beliveau to the mat but Beliveau just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Shark goes for a takedown attempt but Beliveau pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shark might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shark wants to control from the top but Beliveau keeps moving.

Yan Beliveau showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Beliveau gets caught flat footed, as Shark shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Shark slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Beliveau has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Beliveau takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Shark drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shark jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Shark thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Beliveau is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shark not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Beliveau tries to clinch but Shark moves out of range.

Shark goes for a takedown in the clinch but Beliveau prevents it.

Beliveau pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Beliveau misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shark shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Beliveau as he jumps to the side.

Shark shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beliveau pinned against the cage. Beliveau gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Beliveau clinches up with Shark and pushes him back against the cage.
Shark is looking for a takedown.
The referee is keeping an eye on Beliveau - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Beliveau breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shark takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Beliveau misses with a jab, cross combination.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shark drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Beliveau is looking to stand up but Shark isn't so interested in that idea.
Shark wants to control from the top but Beliveau keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yan Beliveau comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Beliveau has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
