Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Howard Castaneda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcelo Boas! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boas gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Boas ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Boas no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Boas controls Castaneda momentarily but Castaneda frees himself. Castaneda stops Boas from standing up. Boas trying to keep a closed guard but Castaneda is proving a slippery customer.
Boas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Boas doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Boas looking to control.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Marcelo Boas wasn't active enough on the ground. Boas feints and as Castaneda raises his hands in defense, Boas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Boas looking to pass the guard. Boas trying to control but Castaneda is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castaneda avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Boas stays in close to Castaneda's body and controls the position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Marcelo Boas was stalling too much, according to the referee. Boas closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Boas is looking to advance position but Castaneda won't allow it. Boas is looking for a kimura here.
Castaneda regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Boas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Castaneda pulls Boas in close to his closed guard and prevents Boas from doing any damage or advancing position. Boas stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Castaneda throws up his legs and catches Boas in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Boas tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Castaneda! That came out of nowhere!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Howard Castaneda!
