PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Micker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oscar Ruiz will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Micker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Oscar Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Micker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Micker looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Ruiz lands a left and a right that send Micker crashing to the mat, dazed. Ruiz thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Jason Micker has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Micker circles away from the clinch attempt.
Micker dives in for a single leg takedown but Ruiz sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Micker tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ruiz smiles and moves away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ruiz is trying to break the clinch but Micker is controlling him.
Micker has Ruiz pushed against the cage.
Micker keeps control of Ruiz as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Micker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Micker looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Micker stops Ruiz from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ruiz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ruiz looking to control.
Ruiz controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ruiz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Micker defends it easily.
Ruiz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Micker's guard.
Ruiz wants to pass the guard but Micker is keeping the position.

Ruiz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ruiz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Micker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ruiz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Micker works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ruiz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ruiz trying to control the position from guard on top but Micker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Micker is working an open guard so Ruiz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Ruiz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Micker seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Ruiz bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Micker avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ruiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Micker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A jab from Ruiz does it's job there.
Ruiz doesn't manage to clinch there - Micker circles away.
Ruiz moves in looking to clinch but Micker pushes him off.
Good exchange - Ruiz coming out on top.
Ruiz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Micker moves away.
Oscar Ruiz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Ruiz drops Micker with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Micker looks back up at him and smiles so Ruiz waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Micker is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Micker keeps the fight on the outside.
Oh Micker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ruiz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Micker manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ruiz feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Micker crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Oscar Ruiz!
