Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rayford Petty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ripin Headsoff!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petty tries to score a power double leg takedown but Headsoff sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Petty somewhat.
Headsoff misses with a takedown attempt

and Petty counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Headsoff pulls Petty in to control the position.
Headsoff avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Petty wants to stand but Headsoff has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Petty throws an elbow that misses. Headsoff uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Petty's guard. Nice move by Headsoff!
Headsoff pushing down on Petty's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Headsoff wants to stand up but Petty is controlling the position.
Petty is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Headsoff's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Headsoff's back!

Headsoff tries to buck Petty off but Petty is having none of it.
Petty sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Headsoff is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Headsoff is looking to regain half guard here but Petty keeps moving and retains side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Rayford Petty will probably get the nod.

Petty is trying to drag Headsoff to the mat but Headsoff just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Petty gets control of Headsoff's arms and successfully pulls guard. Petty will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Headsoff stalling away here and it's allowed Petty to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Headsoff is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Petty has escaped the position, nice work there.

Headsoff looking to control but instead Petty has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Petty wants to control but Headsoff is keeping busy.
Petty is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Headsoff is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Headsoff wants to pass the guard but Petty is defending well.

Headsoff is keen to just control but Petty is a slippery customer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Petty counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

You can see the frustration on Headsoff's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A close second round but Ripin Headsoff will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Headsoff closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Petty is fighting to break Headsoff's control of his arms but Headsoff is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Petty fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Headsoff, pushing him back against the cage.
Headsoff drops down looking for an ankle pick but Petty pulls his leg out and moves away.

Petty fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Headsoff to the ground. Petty is now in Headsoff's guard.
Headsoff is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Let's hope that Headsoff has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Petty has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rayford Petty.
