PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Jay Franlkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Franlkin has chosen ACDC- For Those About To Rock as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Taylor !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Jay Franlkin!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor connects with a body shot.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Franlkin might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Taylor loads up on a big right hand but Franlkin slips the punch.
Franlkin takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Franlkin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Franlkin sizes up Taylor with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Taylor closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Taylor lands in his opponent's guard.

Franlkin is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Taylor keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Franlkin's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Taylor throws a series of strikes and Franlkin wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Franlkin lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Taylor throws a hook but Franlkin avoids it easily.
Taylor bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Taylor shoots in looking for a takedown but Franlkin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Taylor 's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Taylor fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Franlkin sprawls well initially but Taylor persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Franlkin has one foot on Taylor 's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

and Taylor decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Franlkin's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Taylor 's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Franlkin wants to stand but Taylor is controlling the position.

We've been hearing good reports from Taylor 's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Franlkin wriggles free and stands up.
Taylor lands a nice hook to Franlkin's body. Franlkin takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Franlkin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Taylor counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
David Taylor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Franlkin is looking for a triangle here but Taylor uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Taylor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Franlkin keeps working.

David Taylor showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Taylor , winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
