Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Quan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Quan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jackson as he avoids it easily.

Jackson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Jackson jumps guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Quan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jackson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Quan has managed to get both his arms back between Jackson's legs - danger averted.
Quan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jackson on the ground.
Quan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jackson pulls Quan in close to prevent any damage.
Quan wants to pass the guard but Jackson is keeping the position.

Jackson is looking for a triangle but Quan pushes his legs off easily.

Jackson has his feet on Quan's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Quan with a poor takedown

and Jackson counters by clinching up.

Quan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Quan goes for a double leg but Jackson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jackson continues to drive forward.

Jackson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Quan pulls his leg out and moves away.

Quan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jackson, pushing him back against the cage.

Jackson pulls Quan into guard.

Jackson uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Quan napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Quan moves into the clinch.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Quan gets a double leg takedown into Jackson's guard.
Paul Jackson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Quan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jackson has his feet on Quan's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Quan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackson's waist but Jackson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Quan off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Quan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jackson clinches up with Quan and pushes him back against the cage.
Quan trying to control the position but instead, Jackson has worked for underhooks and has pushed Quan into the cage.

Jackson manages to break the clinch.

Quan tries for a takedown but Jackson circles away easily
and Jackson counters with a head kick. That will keep Quan thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Jackson clinches up with Quan and pushes him back against the cage.
Jackson has Quan pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Quan manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Quan drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Quan tries to pull guard but Jackson holds him up against the cage and eventually Quan drops back down to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Jackson has a takedown stuffed.
James Quan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson shoots in looking for a takedown. Quan tries to sprawl out of it but Jackson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Quan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Quan clinches.
Jackson tries a knee to the head but Quan blocks it.

Jackson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Jackson pushes Quan off and scrambles back to his feet.
Quan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jackson.
James Quan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Jackson.
Jackson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Quan misses with a series of wild punches.
Quan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Quan somewhat.
Jackson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Quan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Quan fails with the takedown.

No luck for Quan with that takedown attempt.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Quan but Quan pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Quan moves into range and clinches up with Jackson.
Jackson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Quan looking to stall.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Quan is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jackson to keep the fight standing.

Jackson breaks from the clinch.
Quan looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Quan closes the distance and pushes Jackson back into the cage.
A hook to the body from Jackson.
Jackson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Quan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Quan tries to pull guard but Jackson won't allow it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Quan.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
