PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dark Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koji Kanegi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dark Machine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Koji Kanegi!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kanegi ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kanegi has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Kanegi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Machine tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kanegi is in Machine's guard.
Kanegi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Machine is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kanegi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Machine's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Machine controls Kanegi momentarily but Kanegi frees himself.
Machine preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Machine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kanegi on the ground.

Machine looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kanegi throws a big right hand that misses.
Machine wants to sweep but no luck.
Kanegi throwing strikes from guard but Machine blocks nicely.
Kanegi prevents Machine from getting back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Machine closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kanegi quickly recovers to half guard.
Machine perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kanegi tries to roll over but Machine keeps him under control.

Machine wants to work for an arm triangle but Kanegi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Machine will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are battling for position here. Kanegi manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kanegi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Machine works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kanegi is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Koji Kanegi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kanegi misses the shot to the body.

Kanegi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Machine manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Machine escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kanegi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Machine has his hands on Kanegi's head, controlling the position.
Kanegi slips nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kanegi not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Machine slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Machine looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kanegi is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kanegi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Koji Kanegi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kanegi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Machine manages to avoid it.
Machine uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kanegi.
Machine throws out a leg kick but Kanegi moves out of range and Machine only half commits.
Kanegi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Machine looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kanegi!

Machine decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Kanegi swings for the body but Machine moves out of range.

Machine fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kanegi, pushing him back against the cage.
Machine gets underhooks to prevent Kanegi's takedown attempt.

Machine is rocked!
Kanegi lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Machine quite badly. Machine pulls Kanegi in close trying to recover. Kanegi postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Machine on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Machine doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Koji Kanegi!
