Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Polo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert Paulson! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paulson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Polo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Polo shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Paulson eats them both and turns towards Polo to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
It looks like Robert Paulson has been cut. Paulson takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Paulson misses with a takedown and Polo counters with a left and a right that stings Paulson. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Oooooh!!! Polo has knocked Paulson down with a huge combo! Polo steps away and waves a wobbly Paulson back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Paulson is rocked! Paulson shoots for a takedown but Polo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Polo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Polo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Paulson was covering up waiting for the punch and Polo finishes the takedown easily into guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Polo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Paulson's guard. Polo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Polo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Paulson is looking to control Polo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Paulson avoid being mounted?
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulson is trying to get back to full guard. Paulson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Polo maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Paulson could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Polo has cracked it and Paulson is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Polo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marco Polo! After the big win, Marco Polo made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Soul Supremacy Fight Gear and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
