Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobby Shamrock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tarik Johnson! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Johnson with that takedown attempt. Shamrock lands with a cross. Johnson looks for a takedown but Shamrock sprawls well. Johnson moves out of range as Shamrock strikes. Shamrock stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Johnson gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson tries to pass to full mount but Shamrock defends it. Johnson seems to be working for a kimura but Shamrock defends the submission attempt. Johnson prevents Shamrock from standing back up.
Shamrock manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Johnson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shamrock fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Bobby Shamrock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tarik Johnson. Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Shamrock to counter with a crisp jab. Johnson takes one to the chin there. Johnson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Shamrock counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Johnson moves out of range as Shamrock strikes. Johnson dives in and grabs Shamrock's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shamrock pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out. Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shamrock but Shamrock pushes him off and we're back to square one. Shamrock circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Johnson to the canvas! Johnson doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Shamrock keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bobby Shamrock! Bobby Shamrock decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
