Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
31 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Carneiro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Eric Angle! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A shot to the body from Angle misses and Carneiro counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Angle! Carneiro wants to control but Angle is keeping him busy. Carneiro connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Angle some visible discomfort.
Carneiro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carneiro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Angle prevents Carneiro from improving position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carneiro trying to control the action but Angle is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Angle managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Carneiro.
Carneiro is looking to take a break and control but Angle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Carneiro working away. Angle is not content to let Carneiro control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Carneiro goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Angle has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Carneiro but great work by Angle. Angle with the ground and pound but Carneiro regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Carneiro regains full guard. Nicely done. Angle trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Carneiro is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Angle is aware though and is defending well. Angle in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Angle throwing strikes but missing. Angle throws a big right hand that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Angle postures up in Carneiro's guard and throws a big left but Carneiro blocks it. Angle throws a sloppy strike and Carneiro has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Angle is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Carneiro!
