Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Matti Meikalainen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vaan Tseng! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meikalainen looks to land a right hand but Tseng moved out of range. That kick from Meikalainen tenderised Tseng's leg. Tseng is trying to keep his angry face on. Meikalainen pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Tseng misses with a body kick. Tseng throws a nice outside leg kick. A looping hook to the body misses from Tseng. Meikalainen does a little dance to reset his feet. Meikalainen lands with a shot to the body. Tseng buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Tseng needs to keep his hands up - Meikalainen had a free shot at his head there. Tseng swings for the body but Meikalainen moves out of range.
Meikalainen dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tseng. That did some damage! Meikalainen tries to bum rush Tseng with a series of wild strikes but Tseng uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Meikalainen throws a solid leg kick but Tseng takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Meikalainen. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Tseng drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Meikalainen trying to control the position here. My spies in Ninjin no Tamanegi inform me that Tseng has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Tseng prevents Meikalainen from getting back to his feet.

Tseng throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Meikalainen works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Tseng lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Meikalainen tries to land a sweep but no joy. Meikalainen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tseng manages to get himself to full guard.
Tseng is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tseng is on top in guard.
Meikalainen wants to stand and escape but Tseng is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tseng working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Meikalainen looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tseng puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Tseng not landing any meaningful shots this time. Tseng is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Meikalainen tries to lock up and control but Tseng gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meikalainen regains half guard. Tseng is keen to just control but Meikalainen is a slippery customer. Ground and pound from Tseng. Meikalainen tries to kick Tseng off but Tseng keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Tseng throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Tseng has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Tseng missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Tseng seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Meikalainen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Meikalainen wants to get back to full guard. It looks like he's just sitting there. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Meikalainen holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Meikalainen wants to get back to full guard. Meikalainen is working hard here to advance position. Meikalainen is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at McGarrys plant works, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Well, if Tseng is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Meikalainen scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Meikalainen lands a body shot.
Tseng throws a low kick, looking for Meikalainen's leg but Meikalainen calmly moves out of range. Meikalainen lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Meikalainen thows a leg kick but Tseng checks it and Tseng counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Tseng trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Tseng stopping the sweep attempt from Meikalainen. Tseng working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Tseng in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Meikalainen is trying to keep Tseng in close.
Tseng has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Tseng's corner is telling him to maintain position. Tseng trying to control the position from guard on top but Meikalainen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A good leg kick by Tseng. Tseng fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Meikalainen has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Meikalainen walks forward, straight into a front kick from Tseng. Tseng moves away from the strike by Meikalainen. Tseng takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

"I don't think so" says Meikalainen as he avoids it easily. Tseng shoots in looking for a takedown but Meikalainen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tseng's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Meikalainen misses with a looping right. Tseng lands with a nice body punch. Meikalainen shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Tseng connects with an inside leg kick. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tseng being controlled here momentarily. Tseng tries to free his leg and advance position but Meikalainen is retaining full guard. Meikalainen working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Meikalainen throws a hook to the side of Tseng's head but Tseng sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Meikalainen is looking to chop away at Tseng's legs. Meikalainen throws a lazy right hand but Tseng sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Meikalainen tries to score with a low kick but Tseng moves his leg out of the way. Tseng dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Tseng moves out of range of the body kick from Meikalainen.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Tseng. Tseng throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Meikalainen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Meikalainen takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Meikalainen swings for the body but Tseng moves out of range.
Tseng throws a push kick but Meikalainen slaps the foot to one side. Tseng fails with a takedown attempt. Matti Meikalainen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Vaan Tseng showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Vaan Tseng's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Tseng fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Meikalainen. Meikalainen tries to clinch but Tseng moves out of range. Meikalainen throws out a leg kick but Tseng moves out of range and Meikalainen only half commits. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tseng shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Meikalainen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Vaan Tseng is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Let's hope that Tseng has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Meikalainen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Tseng wants to control the pace but Meikalainen is squirming around nicely. Meikalainen tries to lock up and control but Tseng gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Tseng content just to control the position here. Tseng's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Matti Meikalainen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
