Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ahmed Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Alves!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Alves, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Day gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Alves to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Day tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Day is looking to sweep but instead, Alves has passed into half guard.
Alves is looking to take a break and control but Day is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Day regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Alves.
Alves landing with the ground and pound.
Alves stays in close to Day's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alves pushing down on Day's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Alves controlling the action here.
Alves sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Day defending well though.

Alves is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Day defends it well.
Day desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Day is looking to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Day is trying to maintain the position but Alves is very close to passing his half guard.
Day wants to get back to full guard.
Alves wants to control but Day is keeping him busy.
Alves takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Felipe Alves hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Day tries to keep at a distance but Alves has taken the fight into the clinch.
Day goes for a takedown in the clinch but Alves prevents it.
Day has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Alves is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Alves breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Alves throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Day gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Alves counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ahmed Day. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Day on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Alves dives in and scores a takedown into Day's guard.
Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Day is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Alves drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Day dives on top into guard.

Alves throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves pushes Day off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Alves throws a one two combo.
Day shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Day's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Alves looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Day blocking the ground and pound attempt from Alves.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Felipe Alves dominated that round.
That's time! Day's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Alves scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Day is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Alves off and has taken his back!
Alves is really stuck here.

Day is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Alves is tapping out! This one is all over!
