Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Lewis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Pain! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pain shoots for a double leg takedown but Lewis sprawls well. He's pushed Pain's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Lewis scores with a nice head shot. Lewis drops Pain with a nice combination! Lewis dives into Pain's guard, looking to finish!
It looks like John Pain has been cut. Pain looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lewis is one step ahead there. Pain pulls Lewis in close to prevent any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pain is continuing to stall. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Lewis stopping the sweep attempt from Pain.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Lewis lands a body shot.
Lewis ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lewis moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Lewis connects with a right hand. Pain shakes it off. Lewis bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Lewis drops Pain with a left and a right! Oh, Pain is hurt - Lewis dives into side control looking to finish!
Pain is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lewis is looking to take a break and control but Pain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Pain is still in real trouble! Can Lewis finish him? Pain sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Pain seems to have recovered his senses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lewis tries to stand but his arm is trapped. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pain keeps control of the position for the meantime. Lewis wants to control but Pain is keeping him busy. It looks like Lewis is going to stand back up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Pain moves into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Pain is pulling down on Lewis's head. It's preventing any offense from Lewis, at least for the moment.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Pain takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Lewis misses with the combination.
Lewis connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Pain shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lewis as he jumps to the side. Lewis's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Lewis duly obliges. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Lewis dominated that round. The cut man is working on John Pain's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Nice cross by Lewis. Lewis lands a slapping body shot.
Lewis walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Pain drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Lewis swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Pain's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Lewis!
