PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cruz Beck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Roar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reggie Roar will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cruz Beck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Reggie Roar!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roar swings for the body but Beck moves out of range.
Roar throws a right and a left that Beck avoids nicely.
Roar misses with a right hand
and Beck counters with a three punch combo that has Roar backing up. Roar nods at Beck to acknowledge the strikes.
Reggie Roar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roar is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Roar lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Roar throws a sloppy body shot
and Beck counters with a series of strikes. Roar will be more careful next time no doubt.
Roar tries to clinch
and Beck counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Roar throws a right hand that Beck ducks under and follows up with a left that Beck also avoids with ease.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Beck circles away quickly and effectively.

Roar throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Beck.

and Beck counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Roar thinking.
Beck throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Roar swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Roar throws a series of punches but Beck avoids them all with ease.
Roar looks winded!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Roar throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Roar throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Roar misses with a two punch combination.
Roar thuds his right hand into Beck's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Roar tests Beck's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Roar throws a hook but Beck blocks it.
Roar throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Beck stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Beck really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Roar throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Roar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beck pinned against the cage. Beck gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Roar gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Beck to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Beck landing with the ground and pound.
Roar looking to control but Beck passes into half guard.
Beck throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Beck controlling the pace.
Roar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Beck is working away from the top position though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Beck connects with a nice short shot to Roar's temple.
Beck looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Roar is looking to get back to is feet but Beck passes into side control.
Beck lands a few punches from side control.
Beck cracks Roar with a big right hand but Roar just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Reggie Roar will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Roar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fight stays on the outside here - Roar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Beck slips under a jab from Roar.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roar will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Beck uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Roar.

Beck looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Roar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Beck counters by clinching up.

Beck has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Roar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A bit of stalling here from Beck.

Beck breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Beck shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roar sprawls well. Roar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Beck gets slowly back to his feet.

Roar misses with a wild body shot.
Beck tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Beck shoots in looking for a takedown. Roar tries to sprawl out of it but Beck keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Roar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cruz Beck. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roar can do anything to dispel that myth.

Reggie Roar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Roar looks to land a combination but Beck avoids it well.
Roar lands a jab-cross combination.
Roar dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Roar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Roar closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Roar throws a right and a left that Beck avoids nicely.
Roar swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Roar feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Becks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Roar dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Roar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Beck instigates a clinch.

Roar can't find room to land a body shot as Beck controls the action.
Come on Beck - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Beck for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Roar stops a takedown attempt from Beck.

Beck lands a takedown into guard.
Beck working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Roar is trying to hold Beck in close to prevent damage but Beck has managed to pass into half guard.
Beck is trying to control. Roar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Beck cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Roar is in a horrible position here. Beck smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roar takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Roar is rocked!

The referee warns Roar that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Beck is landing with some decent strikes but Roar is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Cruz Beck showed his dominance in that final round.
