Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kato Aspenia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ichi Takeshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kato Aspenia has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kato Aspenia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ichi Takeshi!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aspenia misses with a double jab.
Takeshi has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Aspenia is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Aspenia slips under a jab from Takeshi.
Takeshi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Aspenia misses with a two punch combination.
Aspenia lands the left hand.
Takeshi avoids a punch combination nicely.
Takeshi throws a hook to the side of Aspenia's head but Aspenia sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Takeshi lands with a cross.
Aspenia avoids the body shot from Takeshi.

Aspenia darts in and clinches Takeshi up against the cage.

Aspenia escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Takeshi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Aspenia manages to avoid it.
Aspenia wants to clinch up but Takeshi keeps it at a distance.
Takeshi shoots in for a takedown but Aspenia shows good takedown defense.
Aspenia throws a right and a left that Takeshi avoids nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Aspenia tries to close the distance and clinch but Takeshi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Takeshi fails to land with a series of punches.

Takeshi digs a good body shot into Aspenia's ribs.
Aspenia doesn't manage to clinch there - Takeshi circles away.
Takeshi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Aspenia scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Aspenia scores with a jab to the body.
Aspenia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aspenia ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Takeshi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Aspenia swivels and escapes.
Kato Aspenia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ichi Takeshi.
Aspenia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aspenia dodges the punch combination from Takeshi.
Aspenia connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Takeshi momentarily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Aspenia misses with a takedown attempt - Takeshi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Aspenia swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Takeshi counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Takeshi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Takeshi is looking to take a break and control but Aspenia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Takeshi misses with the ground and pound.
Aspenia is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Takeshi wants to control but Aspenia is keeping him busy.
Takeshi creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Aspenia sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Aspenia is looking to escape.
Takeshi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Aspenia is looking to control Takeshi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Aspenia avoid being mounted?

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Aspenia takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Aspenia looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Takeshi keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Takeshi fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Aspenia is out of range.
Takeshi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Takeshi throws a lazy uppercut

and Aspenia counters with a single leg into guard. Takeshi didn't expect that.
Aspenia wants to stand and escape but instead Takeshi has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Takeshi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kato Aspenia will probably get the nod.
That's time! Aspenia's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Takeshi takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Nice sprawl there from Aspenia as Takeshi shoots in.
Aspenia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Takeshi throws a jab but it's blocked by Aspenia.
Aspenia throws a series of punches but Takeshi moves out of range.
Aspenia fails in his attempt to clinch.

Aspenia misses with a body shot.
Aspenia misses with a looping right.

Aspenia takes the fight into the clinch.

Takeshi jumps guard.
Aspenia wants to stand but Takeshi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Takeshi is on top in guard.

Aspenia is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Takeshi is controlling him.
Aspenia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Takeshi on the ground.
Aspenia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Takeshi tries to free his leg and advance position but Aspenia is retaining full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Aspenia pulls Takeshi in close to prevent any damage.
Takeshi stops Aspenia from standing up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Takeshi clobbers Aspenia with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Aspenia is defended easily by Takeshi.
Kato Aspenia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Aspenia feints a jab promting Takeshi to slip. Aspenia then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Takeshi slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Takeshi tests Aspenia's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Takeshi takes a swing at Aspenia's ribcage but misses.

Aspenia gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Aspenia slips under a jab from Takeshi.

Takeshi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takeshi unloads with some shots from mount but Aspenia bucks and avoids them well.
Takeshi wants to control the pace but Aspenia is squirming around nicely.
Aspenia tries to hold on but Takeshi postures up.
Takeshi lands a heavy elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Takeshi swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Aspenia is now in Takeshi's guard. A big mistake from Takeshi there, giving up the dominant position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ichi Takeshi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Aspenia tries to clinch but Takeshi is having none of it.
Aspenia misses with a few strikes there.

Aspenia closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Takeshi ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Takeshi no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Takeshi is looking for a triangle here but Aspenia uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Takeshi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takeshi can't do much from the bottom here.

Aspenia wants to stand but Takeshi has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Aspenia wants to get up but he can't break Takeshi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Aspenia throws a strike but Takeshi rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Aspenia can't keep his opponent in guard - Takeshi advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Aspenia is looking to escape.

Aspenia is not content to let Takeshi control the position.
Takeshi with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Takeshi is keen to just control but Aspenia is a slippery customer.
Ichi Takeshi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Aspenia wants to control but Takeshi is keeping busy.
Aspenia is trying to escape back to his feet but Takeshi uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Takeshi tries to score with some ground and pound. Aspenia controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Aspenia wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Takeshi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Takeshi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Aspenia defends it nicely.

Takeshi throws a series of punches but Aspenia moves out of range.
Takeshi swats away the attempt to clinch by Aspenia.

Takeshi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Aspenia moves away.
Kato Aspenia is winning the standup battle so far.
Aspenia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sloppy strikes from Aspenia. Those never looked like landing.
Aspenia misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Takeshi.
Takeshi shoots for a double leg takedown but Aspenia sprawls well. He's pushed Takeshi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Left hook, right uppercut from Aspenia.
Aspenia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Takeshi scores with a hook to the body. Aspenia takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Aspenia avoids a punch combination nicely.
Aspenia is looking to wear down Takeshi with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Takeshi connects with a nice looking jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aspenia takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Takeshi throws a leg kick that misses.
Aspenia tries to clinch but Takeshi moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ichi Takeshi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Takeshi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
