Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Martin Esteban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Willish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johny Willish has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Martin Esteban!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Johny Willish!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Esteban feints and as Willish raises his hands in defense, Esteban changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Esteban would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Willish avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Esteban throws an elbow that misses. Willish uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Esteban's guard. Nice move by Willish!

Esteban wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Willish thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Willish wants to control from the top but Esteban keeps moving.
Willish postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Esteban has a closed guard, preventing Willish from standing up.

Esteban really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Willish gets to his feet - Esteban follows without any prompting.
Willish throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Esteban.
Willish shoots in but no luck this time.
Johny Willish seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Willish feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Esteban pulls Willish in close to prevent any damage.
Willish looking to sit in guard and control but Esteban gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Esteban with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Esteban is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Willish is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Esteban is pushing down on Willish's leg trying to pass to half guard. Willish is fighting to maintain full guard but Esteban has managed to sneak the leg through.

Esteban winds up and cracks Willish with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Esteban works his way into full mount!
Esteban pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Willish wants to hold on but Esteban pushes him away.
Esteban cracks Willish with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Esteban fails with the takedown.
Willish throws a looping overhand right but Esteban ducks down to avoid it.

Esteban shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Esteban was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ground and pound from Esteban seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Willish is looking to regain half guard here but Esteban keeps moving and retains side control.

Esteban is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Willish is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Esteban will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Esteban is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Willish knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Willish dodges the ground and pound from Esteban.

Martin Esteban overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Esteban wants to lay and pray for a moment but Willish keeps working.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Willish sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Willish wants to improve his position but Esteban is controlling well.

Esteban looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Esteban is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Willish misses with a takedown attempt

and Esteban counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Esteban.
Willish keeping moving, preventing Esteban from controlling successfully.
Esteban missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Esteban showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Willish is looking to stand up but Esteban isn't so interested in that idea.

Esteban wants to stand but Willish is controlling his posture from full guard.
Esteban controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Willish is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Esteban keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Willish tries to clinch but Esteban moves out of range.
Willish tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Esteban looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Willish misses with a takedown attempt - Esteban sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Willish doesn't manage to clinch there - Esteban circles away.

Willish gets tackled into the cage by Esteban. Esteban maintains the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Willish tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Esteban avoids it.

Esteban pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Willish darts in looking for a takedown but Esteban gets double underhooks and turns Willish into the cage.
Martin Esteban has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johny Willish.

Esteban breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Willish tries a head kick but it misses.
Esteban blocks a head kick by Willish.
Willish takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Esteban wants to land a leg kick but Willish is out of range.
Esteban fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Esteban is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Willish can do to turn this around?
Esteban fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Esteban closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Esteban tries to stand but can't do so whilst Willish controls his leg.
Esteban slows the pace down in half guard.

Esteban tries to stand and escape but Willish is controlling the position.
Esteban is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Esteban's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Willish is defending against the submission attempts here by Esteban.

Esteban tries to keep at a distance but Willish has taken the fight into the clinch.
Willish jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Esteban walks away with a smile on his face. Willish gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Willish closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Esteban did well to prevent Willish getting side control.

Willish is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Esteban sees it coming and defends easily.
Esteban is looking to improve his position.
Esteban scores with a few weak punches.
Esteban wants to control the action here but instead Willish manages to pass to full mount!
Esteban tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Willish can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Esteban is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Esteban keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Martin Esteban.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Esteban, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
