PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Braden Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melvin Sledd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Braden Scott has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Braden Scott seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Braden Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Melvin Sledd!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott shoots for a double leg takedown but Sledd sprawls well. He's pushed Scott's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Scott closes the distance and clinches up with Sledd, looking for a takedown. Scott pushes Sledd against the cage but Sledd circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Scott shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sledd as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Braden Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Scott closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sledd circles away.
Sledd misses with a head kick.
Scott fails with the takedown.

Sledd shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sledd showed some decent athleticism there.
Scott is breathing heavily.
Scott is trying to stand.

Nice strikes from Sledd there.
Sledd takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sledd works his foot free and advances to mount.
Sledd fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Scott really wants to buck Sledd off and get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sledd looking to secure an arm triangle but Scott defends it well.
Sledd controlling the pace for now.

Sledd working for a submission but Scott is keeping him at bay.

Sledd controlling from the full mount.
Scott is wriggling around trying to escape.

Sledd is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Scott is surviving well by controlling Sledd's body position as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scott can't escape the position.
The referee warns Scott that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Scott tries to improve his position but instead Sledd has taken his back!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sledd is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

Scott is keeping busy.
Sledd is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Sledd scores with punches and elbows.

Scott is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Sledd gets his way!

Sledd is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Scott defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Scott is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
Sledd is looking to clinch.

Sledd feints and as Scott raises his hands in defense, Sledd changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Scott uses the cage to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Sledd counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Scott tries to kick Sledd off but Sledd keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Melvin Sledd dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Sledd fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Scott, pushing him back against the cage.
Sledd changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Scott fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Scott counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sledd's guard now.
Scott trying to control the position from guard on top but Sledd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Scott wants to stand but Sledd is controlling his posture from full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sledd had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Scott is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sledd Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Scott's back instead.
Scott tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Scott can't escape the position.
Sledd manages to capitalize on a mistake by Scott to take his back!
Scott is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Sledd is punishing Scott with strikes - can he finish him?!
Scott is trying to get back to his feet but Sledd has full control of the position and if anything, Scott has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Sledd keeps control of the position as Scott tries to break free.
Sledd has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Scott.
Scott is trying to stand back up.
Scott is in bad spot here.
Sledd lands punches and elbows.
Sledd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Scott staying busy and making it hard for Sledd to control.
Scott wants to get back to his feet.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Sledd is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Scott won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Sledd off his unconscious opponent!
