Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Josh Mooney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Kazaev! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Kazaev as Mooney shoots in. Mooney moves into the clinch. Kazaev drops Mooney with a big knee straight up the middle! Mooney is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
It looks like Josh Mooney has been cut. Kazaev pushes Mooney up against the cage in a clinch. Kazaev decides to pull guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kazaev scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mooney fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Kazaev pushes Mooney up against the cage in a clinch. Kazaev drags the fight down to the ground.
Kazaev is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kazaev scrambles and gets back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mooney. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Mooney. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mooney has closed the distance and engaged Kazaev in a clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Mooney throws an elbow but misses. Mooney has had enough of the clinch but Kazaev keeps him there for the moment. Mooney is trying to force a seperation but Kazaev has the dominant position. Kazaev gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Mooney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Kazaev lands a takedown into guard.
Kazaev stands and steps away. Mooney gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mooney gets tackled into the cage by Kazaev. Kazaev maintains the clinch. Mooney is trying to break free. Mooney is trying to push Kazaev away but Kazaev has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Kazaev crunches a lovely knee into Mooney's ribcage. Mooney is breathing heavily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kazaev pulls guard. Kazaev lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Kazaev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mooney, up you get! Kazaev gets a double leg takedown into Mooney's guard. Kazaev stands up from guard. Let's bang! Kazaev darts in and clinches Mooney up against the cage. Kazaev has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mooney uses from the top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kazaev wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Mooney got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kazaev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mooney has managed to get both his arms back between Kazaev's legs - danger averted. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kazaev tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kazaev is pulling down on Mooney's head. It's preventing any offense from Mooney, at least for the moment. Kazaev will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mooney trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kazaev's guard. Mooney has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Mooney preventing the sweep. Kazaev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mooney defends it easily.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. The fight moves into the clinch position. Kazaev drags the fight down to the ground.

Roman Kazaev dominated that round. The cut man is working on Josh Mooney's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Kazaev rushes Mooney and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. A right hand to the body from Kazaev.
Kazaev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Kazaev instigates a clinch. Mooney tries to break free but Kazaev pushes him back against the cage. Kazaev lands a knee to the body.
Kazaev lands a body punch in the clinch. Kazaev ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kazaev no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Kazaev manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Kazaev closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Kazaev avoiding damage.
Kazaev gets a trip takedown into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kazaev takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kazaev decides to stand and escape the position. Kazaev fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mooney, pushing him back against the cage. Kazaev has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mooney regains guard immediately. Kazaev decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Josh Mooney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mooney shoots in for a takedown but Kazaev shows good takedown defense. Kazaev lands a left and a right that send Mooney crashing to the mat, dazed. Kazaev thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Josh Mooney's cut is getting worse. This has been an exciting period of action! Kazaev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mooney was covering up waiting for the punch and Kazaev finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mooney is rocked! Kazaev is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Oh Mooney is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kazaev missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Kazaev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Mooney seems to have got his legs back now. Kazaev in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Kazaev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Kazaev stays in close to Mooney's body and controls the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kazaev passes easily into side control. Nice work. Kazaev has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Mooney looking for a sweep but Kazaev has passed into full mount! Oh no! Roman Kazaev has got the better of the ground game so far. Mooney holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Kazaev tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Kazaev controlling the position easily from mount. Mooney is in all sorts of trouble here.

Roman Kazaev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Josh Mooney's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Mooney gets caught napping as Kazaev dives in and scores a takedown. Mooney manages to retain guard. Kazaev sitting in guard, not really doing much. Kazaev decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Mooney tries for a takedown but Kazaev sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Both fighters are breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mooney gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!
