Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Trujillo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marius Derdriuc! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Edson Gomes and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Trujillo shoots for a double leg takedown but Derdriuc sprawls well. He's pushed Trujillo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Derdriuc gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Trujillo to score an easy takedown into full guard. Derdriuc is trying to control the position but Trujillo postures up. Trujillo stays in close to Derdriuc's body and controls the position. Derdriuc trying to keep a closed guard but Trujillo is proving a slippery customer.
Trujillo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Trujillo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Trujillo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's one minute gone in the round. Trujillo sitting in guard, not really doing much. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Trujillo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Trujillo shoots in and bounces Derdriuc off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Trujillo chips away with some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trujillo content to stall in guard here. Trujillo throwing strikes but missing. Trujillo sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Trujillo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Derdriuc swivels and escapes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Trujillo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Derdriuc as he jumps to the side. We've been informed that Derdriuc has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Trujillo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Trujillo clinches. Trujillo has Derdriuc pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Trujillo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Derdriuc tumbling to the mat - Trujillo dives into Derdriuc's guard. Trujillo engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Trujillo with a nice head shot there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rex Trujillo dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Trujillo thows a body kick. Derdriuc tries to catch it but that hurt him. Trujillo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Derdriuc pinned against the cage. Derdriuc gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Trujillo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Derdriuc utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Derdriuc preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Trujillo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Trujillo controlling from the top position. Trujillo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Derdriuc can do to turn this around? Derdriuc is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trujillo wants to get up but he can't break Derdriuc's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trujillo stays in close to Derdriuc's body and controls the position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Trujillo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Derdriuc sprawls well. Derdriuc wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Trujillo gets slowly back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. A momentary lapse in concentration from Derdriuc enables Trujillo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Derdriuc manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Trujillo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trujillo wants to stand and escape but instead Derdriuc has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Trujillo keeping moving, preventing Derdriuc from controlling successfully. Trujillo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Trujillo manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Trujillo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Derdriuc avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Trujillo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trujillo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Derdriuc manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Trujillo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Further stalling from Trujillo. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rex Trujillo dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Trujillo closes the distance and clinches. Trujillo has clasped his hands together around Derdriuc's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Trujillo taking a breather here. Trujillo tries to stand but Derdriuc is controlling his head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Trujillo lands some shots froms side control.

Derdriuc is trying to escape the position but Trujillo is controlling the position. Trujillo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Derdriuc takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Marius Derdriuc is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Trujillo dives in and scores a takedown into Derdriuc's guard. Trujillo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Trujillo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Derdriuc can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Trujillo controls the pace. Trujillo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Derdriuc works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trujillo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. This is a sustained period of stalling by Trujillo.
