PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jartsa Raatis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caleb Carr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jartsa Raatis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Caleb Carr!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carr displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Carr lands a jab-cross combination.
Carr moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


Raatis is rocked!
Carr fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Oh Raatis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Raatis tries to land a front kick but Carr steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Raatis is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carr.
Raatis seems to have got his legs back now.
Raatis connects with a body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carr lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Carr scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Raatis doesn't seem bothered though.
Raatis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Raatis somewhat.
Carr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Raatis looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Raatis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Raatis tries to free his leg and advance position but Carr is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Carr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Raatis is aware though and is defending well.
Carr keeping moving, preventing Raatis from controlling successfully.
We've been hearing good reports from Raatis's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carr is pulling down on Raatis's head to control his posture.
Raatis wants to control from the top but Carr keeps moving.
Raatis is really struggling to control Carr but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carr scores with a one two! Raatis had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Raatis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Carr.
Carr lands with a nice combination. Raatis backs away looking to recover.

Carr drops Raatis with a left and a right! Oh, Raatis is hurt - Carr dives into side control looking to finish!
Raatis wants to control but Carr postures up.
Raatis tries to buck Carr off but Carr is having none of it.
An elbow from Carr crashes against the mat.
Raatis wants to control but Carr postures up.
Raatis is looking to reverse the position.
Carr sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Raatis is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carr tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Raatis seems a little lost for a moment, as Carr dominates the positioning.
Raatis tries to buck Carr off but Carr is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carr just content to control the position.

Carr has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Raatis is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Carr yanks on the arm and Raatis is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Carr.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Caleb Carr!
