Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Houston Apodaca ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Wolf! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Apodaca shoots in for a takedown but Wolf shows good takedown defense. Nice takedown defense from Wolf. No joy for Apodaca on that attempt. Wolf shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Apodaca gets caught flat footed, as Wolf shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Wolf throws a big right hand that misses. Wolf throws a big elbow that misses. Wolf got a little sloppy there for a moment and Apodaca has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wolf has managed to get both his arms back between Apodaca 's legs - danger averted. Wolf must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Wolf stopping the sweep attempt from Apodaca . Apodaca preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Apodaca has momentary wrist control but Wolf slips an elbow through the middle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wolf wants to pass the guard but Apodaca is keeping the position. Wolf postures up in Apodaca 's guard and throws a big left but Apodaca blocks it. Apodaca is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wolf is controlling him. Apodaca escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wolf gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Wolf really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Apodaca . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Apodaca is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wolf lands a couple of elbows. Wolf landing some decent shots from guard.
Apodaca is rocked! Wolf loads up on a big left hand. Apodaca felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Wolf looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Apodaca can't hide his disappointment, as Wolf celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Wolf!
