Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenichi Shirahama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shirahama comes to the cage accompanied by Fade To Black. Bateman has chosen Huey Lewis and The News - Hip To Be Square as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Patrick Bateman!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shirahama looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Shirahama changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Shirahama displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bateman throws out the jab.

We've been hearing reports that Shirahama has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shirahama drops back looking for a leg! Bateman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bateman manages to kick Shirahama off! Shirahama jumps back into Bateman's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bateman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shirahama's guard.


Shirahama had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bateman defends it easily.
Shirahama is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shirahama is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bateman is just riding it out for now. Shirahama eventually gives up the hold.

Bateman connects with a good right hand that stumbles Shirahama. Shirahama circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Shirahama attempts a counter takedown but Bateman avoids it well and moves away.
Patrick Bateman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shirahama moves out of range as Bateman strikes.
Shirahama feinted with a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shirahama thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Shirahama is looking to take a break and control but Bateman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

You can see the frustration on Bateman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Shirahama passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Bateman!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Shirahama cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kenichi Shirahama overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shirahama is landing with some decent strikes but Bateman is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Shirahama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shirahama fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Shirahama looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Bateman covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

During a confident post fight interview, Kenichi Shirahama thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
