Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brock Lesnar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Theodore Smith! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lesnar fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smith to the ground. Lesnar is now in Smith's guard. Lesnar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Lesnar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Smith is trying to keep Lesnar in close.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lesnar is one step ahead there. Lesnar engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith wants to sweep here but Lesnar controlling him for the moment. Smith keeping full guard, as Lesnar tries to pass.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Lesnar shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Lesnar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Smith is trying to get back to full guard. Lesnar slows the pace down in half guard. Lesnar escapes and gets back to his feet. Lesnar shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Lesnar is breathing heavily. Smith wants to control but Lesnar is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lesnar is controlling the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Smith is looking to improve his position.
Lesnar is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Smith is trying to get back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Lesnar frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Smith is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith tries to hold on but Lesnar postures up. Lesnar controlling the position easily from mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Smith is trying desperately to improve position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brock Lesnar dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Lesnar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard. Lesnar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Lesnar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now. Lesnar looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Lesnar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lesnar content to control rather than advance. Smith wants to control the action here but instead Lesnar manages to pass to full mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Lesnar sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Brock Lesnar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Lesnar trying to control but Smith is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Lesnar content just to control the position here. Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lesnar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Lesnar trying to control but Smith is having none of it. Lesnar wants to finish this one by submission but Smith is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Lesnar. Lesnar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around? Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lesnar looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Lesnar moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Smith has worked his arm free - good work by Smith!
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Smith tries to improve position but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Lesnar takes a little break here. Smith wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Lesnar has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Smith gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Lesnar controlling the pace for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brock Lesnar dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Lesnar gets the takedown into side control. Lesnar has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Smith is trying to improve his position. Lesnar works to advance to full mount. Smith defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Lesnar locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Smith is forced to tap!
