The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bruttz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Lynch avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bruttz. Bruttz throwing shots but Lynch is blocking nicely. Bruttz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bruttz is pressing down on Lynch's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lynch is holding on for now. Lynch holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Bruttz thows a huge punch but Lynch dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bruttz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Bruttz trying to pass the guard but Lynch defending well. Bruttz scoring with strikes to the body and head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bruttz thows a huge punch but Lynch dodges it nicely.
Bruttz wants to take a breather but Lynch is having none of it. Lynch keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Bruttz is looking for a kimura but Lynch is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bruttz to get the leverage. Bruttz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lynch is trying to get back to full guard. Bruttz lands with a punch from half guard. Bruttz wants to pass to mount but Lynch is defending the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bruttz is trying to control. Lynch wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Bruttz thows a huge punch but Lynch dodges it nicely.
Lynch has hold of Bruttz's hands but Bruttz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Lynch keeps control of the position for the meantime. Bruttz lands strikes from half guard. Bruttz missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Lynch avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bruttz. Lynch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bruttz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Lynch has hold of Bruttz's hands but Bruttz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lynch can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bruttz throwing shots but Lynch is blocking nicely. Lynch is not content to let Bruttz control the position. Bruttz not landing any meaningful shots this time. Bruttz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bruttz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bruttz connects with a nice short shot to Lynch's temple. Bruttz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Bruttz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lynch does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Bruttz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Bruttz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lynch's head. Bruttz thows a huge punch but Lynch dodges it nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lynch is holding on to half guard well. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Bruttz slips a nice elbow through Lynch's hands, connecting with Lynch's forehead. Bruttz is keen to just control but Lynch is a slippery customer. Bruttz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Bruttz trying to control the action but Lynch is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Brotiz Bruttz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bruttz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lynch as he avoids it easily. Lynch fails in his attempt to clinch. Lynch has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Bruttz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Bruttz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lynch does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Bruttz is thwarting Lynch's attempts to control the position. Lynch avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Bruttz. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brotiz Bruttz dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Bruttz shoots in but Lynch avoids the takedown attempt easily. Lynch lands the left hand.
It looks like Brotiz Bruttz has been cut. Lynch is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Bruttz shoots in for a double leg but Lynch sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Lynch darts in and clinches Bruttz up against the cage. Bruttz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lynch after a bit of a struggle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brotiz Bruttz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lynch lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Lynch comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Lynch prevents a takedown attempt there.
Lynch lands an elbow that stopped Bruttz in his tracks for a moment.
Brotiz Bruttz's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Brotiz Bruttz's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
